People kept looking for "what topic can I start that would be REAL interesting to discuss" (meaning inflammatory) and the more-tense atmosphere started permeating through the whole of MR.

I just finished brewing my first batch of homemade Cream Soda with a mostly self invented recipe. I brewed to different kinds. A pretty standard vanilla flavoured cream soda. And my own special concoction: Raspberry Cream Soda! Should take about 3 days total to finish. Taste testers needed in Alberta on Friday or Saturday any takers?

The bats we get don't eat mozzies, but rather prefer fruit (being "fruit bats" and all). Earlier this year all the golden cane palms around the pool were fruiting, and the bats came up from the river to land in the palms with all the grace of a clothes drying rack thrown into an electrical substation. Alas, for them, a cute, widdle possum that owns the local neighbourhood would come across the wires from over the road, jump onto the neighbour's roof, scoot along the fence, and leap-attack into the middle of his invaded food trough. The possum was silent, but the bats made a racket that'd silence a cat fight, before they'd take-off with all the complementary grace of sheet of corrugated iron in a hurricane. 'Twas a mite disturbing when trying to watch the telly, seeing as the balcony was at palm-canopy height, and said palms waved their fronds into it. mklynds, how do you make Cream Soda? A local food market here gets in Boylan sodas from the States, and their Creme Soda is magic, but the shop being a "boutique" food market, it's pricey. Cheers, Marc |

			Hey Marc, Quote:
It's actually really easy. So far. For a 2 liter pop bottle mix: ~2 cups cane sugar (any sugar will do but this is the best flavor to sweetness balanced sugar I have found) ~2 tsp vanilla extract (pure or better) ~1.8l water -once it is mixed to a solution pour into bottle. ~add 1/4 tsp yeast -cap bottle and leave to sit at room temp for 12-48 hours, until the bottle firms up. Until you can't squeeze the bottle any more. -Place bottle in the back of your fridge for 24 hours. this will kill the yeast and allow it to settle to the bottom of the bottle. -siphon or carefully pour the soda into another bottle being careful to not allow the settled yeast to mix back in. you can use cheese cloth to remove the yeast if you want. -Pour a glass and enjoy with favorite book (substitute any activity you choose) I have also experimented with concentrated fruit oils for flavor. That is still a work in progress. I am also going to start learning how to make root beer soon as well. | |
