It's also nice to be enamoured of a place where you can visit, and actually speak their language! Though I had to translate the Brit accents to my mother, who couldn't tell what was being said.

Why - cup, of course. Ummm.... kuhp
Northerners can't manage that . They say something like koop, but with a shorter and more 'u' like vowel sound.(perhaps I ought to learn the IPA. But of course, that's only really useful if everyone knows it!) |

I learned it long enough to pass Linguistics, then promptly purged it from by brain. Washed it away with rum and diet Coke, right out the ear. |

I learnt 'skedyule' and 'cleec' --I took English lessons at school like most French children (my teacher had studied at Oxford, UK) & this was in the '60s BTW...

I think the Moons have a portable difibrillator, but no one knows how to use it (except, probably, me). I don't think there's anyone around here who knows CPR either, except, probably, me.
There is a hospital (of sorts) about an hour drive away to the West, and then about an hour East is Austin, and they have several. My fave weird way to pronounce a name is "St. John" .... here we say the actual words as in "Saint John" ... across the pond, they say "Sinjun" sort of all mushed together. Seems to be a habit of both the Americans and the English ... just put a bunch of letters together and then pronounce them any hell the way you want. Gives us something to complain about between elections.
