There may be some disgruntled users with newish hardware given Kobos past history of supporting older hardware. For example, I have a Clara 2e and it would be nice to have some of the new features.

Not to mention a lot of old users who may want to purchase the "kobo stack", so a loss of a recurring revenue stream?

Michael from Kobo already said that they won't bring version 5 & 6 to older devices because they are not powerful enough. The new renderer is chromium based, that requires more processing power.

I think that the devices from 2023 or earlier will not get all the features, I did not see kobo mentioning anywhere that the older firmware will get all features.

Look at the accessibility stuff they did not backport them to v4 in over one year but let the users opt in to v5 if they needed the accessibility features (in the EU where its mandated).

Maybe I’m wrong but it certainly looks this way as they als try to align the kobo and tolino softwares since the same generation. And I totaly get that people want the features on the old devices. I’m not saying it should not happen just that I don’t belive it

My understanding is all four devices Elissa 2e Clara BW, Clara Colour and Libra Colour will get the v6 as this are also got the v5 (https://help.kobo.com/hc/en-us/artic...atures-Support) which uses qt6.
thats all devices from 2023 on when they started to use the Mediatek processors

So it seems that my Libra 2 won't be getting this update. I can live without most of these new features, but I really hope they'll bring "Turning on Bluetooth no longer causes Wi Fi to turn on" to 4.x firmware. I have the Kobo remote but it's draining the reader's battery like crazy. I know there are some Nickelmenu scripts that supposedly can fix that, but it's not really working for me.

The 4.x firmware is Qt5 based while the 6.x firmware is Qt6 based.

It appears that Kobo is planning on backporting some of the features of the v6 firmware but due to CPU limitations, I suspect not all features will be back-ported.

Thanks. My understanding from what was quoted above from the CEO was that the real v6 was now available in UK and some other countries, but only the Beta in others. I'm a bit confused.

Digging into it a bit more (well, asking Gemini) it seems I'm wrong and no one has the final v6 yet. I have the latest patched version coming for download here in UK so I will probably give it a whirl.

Why did you waste tokens on a question like that is stated quite obvious everywhere: Firmware 6 is a beta.
