browser does not work either - and a web app whos link i got sent by amazon support too. and they say that azw/azw3 is the problem because neither the app nor the web app supports it anymore an never will in the future.
it's not about getting the books off of amazon - i just want to read them! |

Looks like you might not be able to read them without getting them off Amazon... And the reason is pure sloth. Not like they can't convert the books, if they decided to spend some effort on it. Heck, their new app even used to download some azw! Not all, but some. They removed the support at some point. Still selling them though...

Yes, Amazon is that way. I'm sorry that happened to you. Back in 2004 and 2005 (pre Kindle) Amazon used to sell ebooks in various formats. I bought quite a few books in LIT format to read on my PDA with Microsoft Reader. Those books do not appear in my Kindle library and Amazon never answered my emails asking about it. Luckily I had them backed up on my computer and was able to save them. I learned never to trust any ebook seller again.

I recently bought a newly released book from Amazon that was in the azw3 format. K4PC 2.9.1 was able to download it. So even new books can be azw3.

This really angers me, I guess Amazon believes they can do whatever they want without repercussions. I don't know how it works in Austria, but I live in Connecticut (USA). We have a very consumer friendly attorney general, I emailed them over a refund dispute with IKEA (~$30), and they forced the company to do the right thing. I wonder if same could work with Amazon.

Just don't buy Kindles! There are enough more open options available. |

While this doesn't solve the problem of Amazon doing whatever they want, at least you have your books and can sue them at your leisure, if so inclined. |

Let's be honest: you didn't "backed them up", you pirated them. As soon as Amazon had stopped selling those, you lost the license, and had to destroy both downloaded files and backups.

Dream on. We have no moral obligation to follow a law clearly hostile to consumers.

Excuse me? Even when I could still download from Kindle4Mac, I still had access to my purchased content that was no longer available for sale. I wasn't required to repurchase the new edition if there was one available.

When you go an eBook listing on Amazon, the link shows Buy Now. Buy, not rent. Last edited by JSWolf; Yesterday at 11:14 AM. |
