How to stop auto-update of Kindle for Mac software?

I'm running v7.5.3 of the Kindle for Mac software. Anything newer and some other software I have won't do its job properly. I did notice the Kindle app updated itself and I had to delete the new app and re-install the older app. I was wondering how I might stop the app from updating.

Both 7.5.3 and the newer version (ver# unknown right now) have no switch to stop auto-updating like older Kindle apps (and Amazon ignores that setting anyway). I've done a Finder "get info" on the v7.5.3 app and checked the "Locked" checkbox. (The padlock at the lower right of the window shows it locked but, now with the "Locked" checkbox enabled, that padlock is dimmed & can't be clicked). I'm thinking this might do the job but there are better minds here that might wish to advise/comment.

The old versions (pre-2024 changes) uploaded the update file to a specific directory, and I set the permissions on that one directory to read only. If it's still the same process, you need to find that directory on your hard drive and do the same.

As I discontinued buying ebooks from Amazon when I was forced to upgrade to the new version from 1.17, I can't help you with the upgrade process for the newer versions (I haven't opened K4Mac in months).

Isn’t updates handled by App Store? Just disable App Store auto updates?

But can you update every other store app installed but Kindle?

Unfortunately you would need to manually click update in the App Store for all apps.

v7.5.3 of the Kindle app is a non-AppStore DMG. <<NOT CORRECT!
Apparently, I was provided a link to a proper DMG but, looking inside of the installed app, I see a "_MASReceipt" file so someone unnamed bundled it up or otherwise saved the downloaded installer and then made it available to me (and others) with the link.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, it did update to the latest version automatically but I tossed that updated version and reinstalled v7.5.3 and locked it. I do not know if this will prevent another update which is why I ask:

@MADDZ - Would you post the path to that folder I should lock? Thank you.
