You can use the kfxgen plugin instead of KFX Output for most books. It does not require the Kindle Previewer for conversion.

Thanks, for the update and letting me know about KFXGen. I loved the ability to get page numbers on using your plugin so I'll definitely download it once the support is there for Kindle Previewer 4. Thanks for making it easy.

I update using Homebrew (macOS). It said it updated successfully to 4.0.0, and it says it is 4.0.0 when asked which version is installed, but It is still launching as "Kindle Previewer 3" (v3.107.0), and KFX Output still works.

Do not know what to make of this.

Under MacOS the plugin looks for the app at "/Applications/Kindle Previewer 3.app". I suspect that the previous version is still present on your system along with the newer of the Previewer under a different name.

In case it's useful, here's how I added support for Kindle Previewer 4 to Kindle Comic Converter. It looks for kindlegen:

MacOS was easy, it just changed location slightly. Windows was trickier since you don't get execute permissions so I copied the file somewhere else from C:\\Program Files\\WindowsApps\\KindlePreviewerApp_4.0.0.0_x64 __ek06e0aw29nma\\KindlePreviewerApp\\resources\\KF XGen\\bin

Actually, no: There is only /Applcations/Kindle Previewer 3.app and it still calls itself that (in menu bar). Perhaps Homebrew is not updating 'correctly'. Build is 3.107.0.

It might be a Homebrew issue. I tried it just now on a Mac and had a different experience.

Installing Kindle Previewer popped up a dialog stating "An older version of Kindle Previewer 3 was found. Would you like to remove it along with its preferences, saved data, and background updater?" After selecting Remove only Kindle Previewer 4 (version 4.0.0) was left in Applications. Trying again and selecting Keep resulted in both Kindle Previewer 3 (version 3.107) and Kindle Kindle Previewer 4 (version 4.0.0) being present.


Added: I now have my new PC set up and am working on support for Previewer 4 in this plugin.

Yes, definitely Homebrew issue. It says it is fetching 4.0.0, but installs 3.107.0 even after uninstalling KP3. The formula has the older URL in it. I filed issue for it.
