I'm using Windows 11 with explorer patcher for the start menu, if that makes any difference. I downloaded the newest Kindle for PC and downloaded some books. I can open them in the Kindle app but when I try to import into Calibre, I can't find the folder. I looked into settings in the Kindle app and it shows a path to
C:\Users\catsk\AppData\Local\Packages
\AMZNKindle.AmazonKindleReadingApp....\Classic\Con tent

but when I open C:\catsk there is no Appdata folder.

You can't deDRM the books by importing them from the folder where the app stores them. You'll need to run the archiver which will transfer the books to a dedicated folder.

Read the first few pages of this thread for a start.

For one item, it is c:\Users\catsk not c:\catsk. As for not seeing it, try opening c:\Users and clicking on the ... at the end of the command bar and then click on Options. In Options, go to the second tab and click on the radio button for Show hidden files, folders and drives. Then click on the Apply to Folders button. You should now be able to see the AppData folder.

OTOH, you do not need to know any of that information. When you run satsuoni's KFXArchiver, it will use that folder automatically and copy the deDRMmed books to a folder in the Data folder in the root of your C drive. If you have the KFX Input plugin installed in calibre, you can import the contents of that folder to calibre.

You can also download the software from the GitHub page, lcurrent version is 10.0.32 though that is subject to change without notice.

For the record: AppData is hidden by default. If you enter %localappdata% in the Windows search box and click on the folder it finds, it will open a file explorer at C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local

I did assume the folder must be hidden and went to View in Explorer and checked show hidden but it still did not show it. I have found it now. I was still unsure how to proceed with the archive tool but found good instructions on the techy-notes.com which someone had mentioned in the Calibre threads. All good and working now, thank you everyone!

To corroborate:
With v 20.0.25, Sats advised that "In case it was not clear, "Mobi" suffix means that it would try to decrypt MOBIBOOK format as well. Topaz not supported by executable, "
I haven't seen anything later that contradicts this.

And topaz was a very strange format....

Very old versions of deDRM did work but nothing recent.....

I can import them from my PW4 to calibre with the usual non-sats deDRM.

DeDRM works fine on the ones from Kindle for PC as well. That's why I thought the k4i key for older formats could be used, but not if Kindle for Windows doesn't download them.
