For what it may be worth, one on-line acquaintance had Google Chrome password sharing enabled. This resulted in his old Android 6 ereader being hacked and his passwords being downloaded. Luckily since he has 2FA enabled on his critical accounts, this resulted in him receiving emails from multiple sites about attempts to access his account instead of having his bank account drained and online shopping maxing out his credit card.

I don't know what DRVs are. I only know DRV as acronym for darunavir. But who knows what pharmaceutical companies put into their product these days...maybe even a BT sender and receiver.

A DVR in this context is likely a digital video recorder.

No bank here uses passwords for logging in, too insecure. Local stores usually don't use stored card info either, for the same reason. But yeah, foreign online stores and tech companies (Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Dropbox, Apple etc) would be a problem.

Must have been Europe-wide, I just checked and also have Android 16 on my NxtPaper 14, with July Android security and Google Play system updates.

Back to the topic, having a KL2, I tested the waters with a 7" color Boox (black version, glass is apparently different on white framed devices). I am not displeased with it, but I find the Kobo a more polished reader - e.g. the reading progress info is easily readable instead of a microscopic eye strainer, etc. The Boox does have Android apps and a lighter build.

On the display side, I feared worse from the Boox color screen. Basically, in the dark or with typical interior illumination I don't notice almost any difference between the KL2 b&w and the Boox color screens - I keep both with sidelight at about 20% and warm color. Outside in the sun the Boox color screen background is noticeably darker, looks like recycled paper.

Long story short, if I had to buy one new e-reader to replace both my e-ink gadgets, I would probably pick the color Libra.

I bought an Era Lite and I have to say, for a device that came out in 2026, it is really slow. My 11th Gen Paperwhite is significantly faster than this thing.

With only 1 GB of RAM and just 1 GHz dual core one would not expect a fast device even with Linux as OS.

The Kindle 11th Gen has 1 GB of RAM and a single core 1 Ghz processor and it's significantly faster than the Era Lite. So, clearly you can do it. The Kindle runs Linux also.

And KOReader is also faster than the stock software on this device.

If you also add the fact that the 11th Gen Kindle has a slower Carta 1200 display, and the Era Lite has a 25% faster Carta 1300 display, it's clear to me that PocketBook has a lot they can do to optimize the software on this device to make it faster.

Gemini suggests Kobo Clara BW as the best equivalent of my wife's Kindle Paperwhite 7th gen., which she unfortunately lost. Second choice is the PocketBook Verse Pro. These are 6" not 7" but have the screen resolution are cheaper than the Paperwhite, whose price has skyrocketed. The biggest advantage of the Kobo or Pocketbook seems to be release from the Amazon eco-system with its aggressive DRM updating. Apparently the Kobo and Pocketbook are much easier to deal with in this respect, and dictionaries can also be uploaded and used as with the Kindle, though the uploading is a bit more complicated.

I went with the Kobo Libra Colour. It's great if you are willing to deal with the Kaliedo 3 screen.

There is clearly a demand for a B&W version of the Libra Colour. The old, discontinued Libra 2 B&W sell for more than a new Libra Colour online these days.

Right now if you want:

1. A 7" ereader
2. Physical page turn buttons
3. A b&W eInk Carta screen
4. Decent performance
5. Battery life longer than a few days

That product does not exist.

Well, I am sure that many people will disagree, but the Nook Glowlight 4+ meets many of those requirements. It is 7.8" and many people think it does not have decent performance. I disagree. It does not have the bells and whistles of Kindle and Kobo, but if all you want to do is read books it is more than capable. The page turn buttons are an added bonus. At $199 US it is a bargain compared to other readers. I am thinking about buying another one because my husband took over my first one.

Whereas I have moved away from KOReader, Plato or any other renderer without good ePub3 support. I find myself using too many ePub3 features that require me to use Kobo's advanced WebKit-based e-book rendering engine (aka TENG) on an ereader.
