[Update] 2026-09-02 - New app design, more stats, seamless reading, book search

This update includes a more modern app design, faster startup and browsing, a redesigned statistics experience, a pitch black dark theme, and extensive reader improvements. The reader now has seamless chapter transitions, vertical scrolling, page-turn animations, in-book search and better annotation handling.

In addition to the big UI rework, I also did a lot of under-the-hood work to prepare for the iOS release, which now is on its way through the Apple system.

• Implemented long press for library items. The old context menu button can be hidden in settings if you want to.
• Implemented seamless chapter switching -- no more loading popups!
• Added a combined popup that has all display options in the library browser in one place.
• Added quick/full search options to the library search. Full search includes comments, which is a bit slower.
• Added a pitch black dark theme variant.
• Added an option for disabling styling/CSS from the book, if you want full control.
• Added time-of-day information to stats, to enable more types of stats in the future.
• Added support for long pressing books on the home page and in the library, instead of or in addition to the context menu (configurable in settings).
• Added support for horizontal slide animation when turning pages.
• Added support for vertical scrolling in the reader.
• Added an 'Export book file' option to the book context menu.
• Added book source information to the book info page.
• Fixed a bug where certain additional cover image placeholders added an additional empty page to the cover image chapter in epubs.
• Fixed a bug where some buttons became unresponsive in some cases where the app had been in the background in certain conditions.
• Fixed a bug where it was impossible to export a backup using the 'Share' functionality if sync services were not configured.
• Fixed popups sometimes not registering a back button press, causing the page behind them to close instead.
• Fixed a bug where different casings on book metadata could cause the storage template system to create duplicated folders.
• Fixed book info links always opening filters in the local library instead of the current book source.
• Fixed font size handling in books with different font sizes within the same chapter.
• Fixed a bug that could cause a Google Drive book source to immediately deauthorize itself.
• Fixed text size popup being too easy to accidentally close if you tapped to close to the edge.
• Fixed superscript text in certain books being rendered overlapping the text above it.
• Lots of minor bug fixes and usability improvements.
• Lots of minor changes improving functionality and UI on iOS.

Published a minor update fixing some annoyances I found in the new version.

Minor bug fixes and improvements.

• Improved performance when opening a book.
• Now shows progress while deleting book sources, so that it doesn't look like nothing happens.
• Made it easier to hit what you want to hit with the text selection inside the reader, and improved performance while dragging it around.
• Fixed cached images from remote book sources not being refreshed when image conversion settings were changed.

There's something I've noticed on my eink Android phone (Hisense A5) with this version.
I use the volume buttons to change page, and now each time I try to advance a page, instead I get out of the book to the home screen, I can only swipe (or tap) to change pages.
I haven't tried what happens when I use the volume down to go back one page.

I have checked that I have the "Use the volume controls" check marked on settings.

The phone is on an old version of Android (I think Android 10) if that is relevant.

Launched another minor update, fixing the volume button issue and a few other smaller things I've been working on for the last week.

Improved the first-launch experience. New users now get a tutorial book, so that they quickly can start testing the reading experience and the library features. Other than that, mostly bug fixes and minor improvements, plus tons of minor UI fixes for the iOS version (which is now on its way through the Apple system for testing).

• When deleting books, you are now asked if you want to delete extra data (bookmarks, annotations, dictionary lookups, statistics) too.
• Added a setting for the duration of the page turn animations.
• Replaced the tutorial page with a new tutorial book that is bundled with the app, so that it is easy to test the library and book features immediately, and at the same time read the tutorial.
• Made the first-launch Calibre auto detection less intrusive, so it's easy to check the tutorial without getting blocked by it.
• Fixed volume buttons crashing the book instead of turning pages.
• Fixed bookshelf cover images being empty after restoring a database backup.
• Fixed the month calendar in the statistics page sometimes moving all Sundays to the next week.
• Fixed weird navigation bug that sometimes replaced the home page with the settings page.
• Fixed fullscreen toggling sometimes not working correctly on certain devices.
• Fixed pages sometimes stopping in the middle of a page turn animation if multiple page turns were started in quick succession.
• Fixed long pressing images inside a book to show them in fullscreen not always working.
• Dozens of minor UI changes all over the app to fix display issues in iOS. Shouldn't affect the Android app at all.
