Fresh corn on the cob is the reason for summer.
OTOH, the blackberries I picked on the hike yesterday were pretty darn good. |

I love greens but I had to look up shepherd's purse. Eating greens is a little problematic here right now, but the cyclospora outbreak seems to be tied to packaged shredded stuff, so I'm taking my chances. Like Popeye, I eat spinach virtually every day but haven't noticed popping arm muscles, more's the pity.

Yeah, cyclospora has put a bit of a damper on my BLT season (though I'm not terribly put out by skipping the least flavor-packed ingredient). I've broken down and got some (very) locally sourced stuff though. There's a medium-sized hydroponic Bibb lettuce outfit within easy driving distance of me.
I'm once again enjoying some fried cornmeal mush with some very flavorful sage and peppery sausage. Washed down with some liquid greens and some very boring half-caf coffee. |

I can get it in steamed buns, frozen in Chinese stores.
You made me go through my recycling to find the package! I've tried different brands and they are all almost identical. There is some tiny crunchier white vegetable put in there too. It could be the root bulbs. The contrast is nice. It's pronounced "ji cai bao". |

Dinner is going to be spezzatino di maiale con piselli with polenta (Italian pork shoulder stew with peas and cornmeal mush). The only decision left is if I make the polenta now, chill it, slice and pan fry or serve it as is from the pot.
