Besides searching for duplicate books you might also want to go thru your library and see which books have multiple formats. For example the book Dune by Frank Herbert. I only have one entry in my library (so no duplicates), but that library entry has .epub, .mobi, .pdf, and .azw . Removing every other format but the epub (if that's what you primarily read) will save a lot of space too. As far as I know you will have to do it thru the library interface with a regular expression search. The search interface can help (manual linked below) as well as the advanced search tool (gear icon on search bar), but I think a search like this will get you started:
(formats:"epub" and formats:"pdf")
This will search for books which have epub & pdf formats, which you can then go thru to eliminate defunct formats.
You can also use the advanced search tool to search on size. You have to specify the size you are looking for, but it should also get you closer to what you are looking for too.
Your plan to look for duplicates is good, but if you deal with the books that have multiple formats as well, you will be well on your way to reducing, by a huge amount, the size of your library.
The search interface manual entry goes thru the searches that I've mentioned and has some really really good examples on how to accomplish different things with it.

If at all possible, I would like to see an option for specific file extensions such as kfx.zip and epub when searching for duplicates. It would be super helpful to me. Thanks!

You can do a search by format and look for ZIP and you'll find all of your KFX.zip files.
Code:
formats:"=ZIP"
