I have a new MacBook and tried to authorize ADE on the new machine. I created a ByteBook account using the same email address I used on the old machine, and was told that I had successfully authorized the new machine. But I can not download Kobo books on the new machine. I keep getting an E_LIC_ALREADY_FULFILLED_BY_ANOTHER_USER error, When I ask what that means I am told by Google you are trying to open an eBook license (.acsm file) using a different Adobe ID or account than the one originally used to download the book. It also happens if you downloaded the book without signing into an Adobe ID first. Since this is the first time I tried to download the book I assume the first part does not apply, but since I am signed into an Adobe ID (ie, a ByteBooks ID) the second does not seem to apply either. I guess that this means I will have to stop using Kobo as a book source if I can not get this resolved. It is extremely frustrating. |

If you have already used an .acsm file with the old registration, it will not work with the new registration and you will have to download a new .acsm file to use with it. Edit: At least that was what worked for me since my old Adobe ID used an email account that has not existed since 2004. It was easier to create a new account with a valid email address than to jump through the hoops to authorize the old ID at ByteBooks.

I have sent an email to what I assume is support at Byte Books asking for further information, but nothing so far. |

Thanks for the information If I ever hear from Byte Books I will try again and post the results, but it seems pointless if I can not get a response from Byte Books. |

I'm also having issues with this transition. I created a new account at ByteBooks using the same email I used in my previous Adobe Digital Editions account, but if I used the checkbox to transfer my existing Adobe account, it would tell me that the user did not exist. I created a new ByteBoons account without that checkbox, and unsurprisingly it doesn't open my previously bought (and already fulfilled) books: it gives the same message as above, that the licence was already fulfilled by another user. I sent them a message with all the details, they replied asking for screenshots. I'm now waiting.
I had changed my email associated with this account, so I wonder if this is why ByteBooks didn't recognize my account as existing. I'm not extremely worried as I always disinfect my files as soon as I buy then, but it would be good to have the option to re-download my books if I need to. I'll report back once I get a reply. I tested this with a couple of library books and books from Kobo. Once I downloaded an ePub using an .ascsm file with my old Adobe ID, I could not use the same .acsm file with my new ByteBooks ID. The same applied if I downloaded the book with my ByteBooks ID where an attempt to download with my Adobe ID gave the same error. If you have a Kobo ereader and authorize it with ADE, it will add a file called activation.xml to the adobe-digital-editions directory in the root of the exposed partition. If you look at that file with a XML editor (just to make it easier to read), you will see two lines of interest (values in those lines modified just a bit). You can also get the same information from the Windows registry in HKCU/Software/Adobe/Adept. Code:
<adept:user>urn:uuid:cf16d607-54cf-412d-8725-b961ef1c9a9e</adept:user> <adept:username method="AdobeID">ent-lover@rogers.home.ca</adept:username> |

Thanks @DNSB, because later it needed to re-download the acsm file I was willing to have on device. Also, now I know that I can buy from Google Books, export them as a epub or PDF acsm file, and copy it to the device (using, in there, the mail from both adobe and ByteBooks, and the Bytebooks' password). Reporting back:
Library books indeed would not be an issue, but I lost access to books I had bought and fulfilled via ADE previously. The solution was to reach out to the vendors and explain to them what happened. They were super quick to answer and very understanding. They manually reset the DRM license for each book, so that they could be downloaded again with the new ByteBooks ID. Hope this helps someone! For the vendors I tested if I did not download a new .acsm file, I got the "E_LIC_ALREADY_FULFILLED_BY_ANOTHER_USER" trying to open the book in ADE, using calibre's ACSM plugin or directly on the one ereader I have access to that supports using .ascm files. If I downloaded a new .acsm file, the book downloaded without issues on any of the three.
If your vendor does not allow you to download a fresh .acsm file for a previously purchased book, it could be a problem. For me, that would be a indicator to not use that vendor in the future. |

Many ACSM files expire in less than a day, so only buy where you can download again.
