Jailbreaking 2022 Kindle Scribe - Can't get past the update screen
Hi, I have a Kindle Scribe that was bought around December 2024, I think it's the 2022 version and it has not been turned on until now so I believe it should be possible to jailbreak it.
I've filled up the disk space but after I registered my account I can't get past the update screen, the update attempts to install, fails (I assume due to the lack of disk space) but then it won't let me access the Kindle store etc. It's as if the device won't let me do anything until an update has been successfully installed. Is there anyway around the update screen? The one other thing I've thought is that I could download a (suitable) update, fill the device storage up with just enough space for the update bin and the hopefully the Scribe would install that update and then let me in to the menu screen. At the moment I can't access anything so I'm unable to turn on flight mode, check the current version etc I've searched to try and find a solution but nobody seems to mention the scenario where the device won't let you through to the main menu without doing an update, all the guides mention going into airplane mode, opening the browser but I can't access any functionality at all. |

If the update screen is blocking everything, your best option is probably to free up enough storage so the update can complete. If that's not possible, check the Kindle jailbreak community to see if anyone has found a workaround for that specific firmware version before attempting anything risky. I had a similar issue with another device, and sometimes completing the required update is the only way forward. Once everything is working again, I usually switch back to reading manga with Tachiyomi APK on my Android device.

In the time since the OP there have been new jailbreaks released, including Sanctuary. If the Scribe is still running a vulnerable firmware version then you may be able to use it to jailbreak if you can access the browser. Or, if it's running a really early version you might need to update it to a new enough version to use it, but still keep it below a version that can't be jailbroken.
