[APP] TV Reader – ebook reader for Android TV (EPUB, FB2, PDF, D-pad navigation)
There are plenty of ebook readers for phones and tablets. On Android TV, there's essentially nothing that works properly with a remote.
TV Reader is built specifically for Android TV — every element is reachable with the D-pad, no touch required. Formats: EPUB, FB2, PDF, TXT, HTML, CBZ Themes: Light, Dark, Sepia, AMOLED, Astigma (reduced contrast) Sources: local storage, USB, SMB/NAS, WebDAV, SFTP, FTP, direct URL, built-in Project Gutenberg (70k+ books), Standard Ebooks No ads. No feature limits. No Google Play required. v1.0.0 – first public release. Solo project, feedback welcome. Android TV, though is evil & best never ever connected to the internet or LAN.
You can display, phone, tablet or laptop on it without internet. |

Quick update — it's been about a week since release. Downloads are at 130+ combined (GitHub + 4pda), which isn't huge, but for a solo niche project I'm happy with it this early.
@Quoth — fair point on the network angle. Right now TVReader only talks to Project Gutenberg/Standard Ebooks and whatever network sources you set up yourself (SMB/WebDAV/SFTP) — no telemetry, nothing else in the background. But I get the general caution with smart TVs, that's a reasonable default. Still actively working on this. If anyone's tried it — good or bad — I'd genuinely like to hear about it. |

Update: v1.0.1 is out
Two fixes in this one, both came directly from feedback here and elsewhere: Reopening a book now always picks up exactly where you left off — even if you fully closed the app instead of just backing out of the reader. Previously it could reset to the start of the chapter. Changing font size no longer resets your reading position either. Small release, but both bugs were annoying enough that I wanted them out quickly rather than bundling them with something bigger. APK: https://github.com/Sozdan2016/TVRead...ses/tag/v1.0.1 As always, if you hit anything weird, let me know here. |
