Beta test for new server interface
Hi all,
I am pleased to announce the new calibre Content Server user interface is now ready for beta testing. It's main feature is a sidebar to make navigating a little easier and when browsing by series it shows covers from the series as a "fan" for a nice visual effect. It also has all its widgets/controls redesigned for a more "modern" look. You can test it by installing calibre 9.9.100 or newer from the https://download.calibre-ebook.com/betas/ It is a lot of code (over 200 commits) so there may well be some bugs. Bug reports gratefully received. See below for screenshots. Note that I am traveling for a while so the speed of my responses will not be as usual. Enjoy and thanks for testing. |

Awesome milestone for calibre! It's working fine here, and I was amazed at how it auto-completed a search I initiated typing.
![]() Hovering over the search result card results in several fields underlined. I would expect perhaps only the title info underlined. |

Hi @kovidgoyal
This looks great. The theme is modern and attractive. The only time I use the server is on either my iPhone XS (2019) and my iPad (circa 2013). It is easy to sideload books using this method. The iPad uses the old simple theme, so I don't see the new modern interface. The iPhone uses this new theme. A couple of things... Image 1. The Previous and Next buttons are hidden under the address bar and cannot be accessed. Image 2. Maybe you could disable the text overlay on the covers when viewing on a small screen? Thank you for the great work. |

@Comfy.n: Fixed in master.
@Karellen: 1) Are you unable to scroll to access the buttons? 2) Sure makes sense, will do it when I have a moment. |

Not sure if this is a failure on my part but I get an "Offline mode is possible, reload the page to enable it" message using Firefox and an "Offline mode is not available, you need to setup HTTPS support in the calibre Content server" in Chrome and Edge.
Generated a self-signed certificate for my computer's IP address and now all 3 browsers give the "Offline mode is possible, reload the page to enable it" message. Last edited by DNSB; Yesterday at 02:54 PM. |

I can swipe the screen up to reveal the buttons, but as soon as I let go (so I can press the button), the screen scrolls back down and the buttons are hidden behind the address bar. The canvas is trying to use the entire screen, instead it should use the screen from above the address bar.

@DNSB: That has nothing to do with the beta it was a feature added to the server a few versions back, a self signed certificate wont work unless you can add it to the trust store of the browser/OS. You can read about the feature here https://manual.calibre-ebook.com/ser...ffline-support

I did add the certificate to Firefox's trust store and the computer certificate store for the other two browsers.

No clue then I havent tried it with self signed certs, it does work with ordinary certs. Possibly browsers dont like self signed certs for service workers, who knows.

I used this guide to create a self signed certificate. Using Firefox on PC and android it will ask you to go advance and except the risks.
https://medium.com/@meriffa/create-y...l-2e7f878fd15d my paths: Code:
/home/username/MyCertificates/Configuration/Server.pem Code:
/home/username/MyCertificates/Configuration/Server.key.pem YMMV bernie |

Here is an odd one that behaves the same when the server is Windows10 or Linux Mint.
Click settings: the status? bar near the top has an X. it does nothing (I sorta expected it to return to where I was before the click. Home does bring back the library content. so is the X (left side) supposed to be there ? |
