fixing vertical streaks

Hi All,

I have my original kindle I got back in 2016 and jailbroke thanks to you guys then. My PW2 is extremely streaky - when opening up a book to read text it's actually fine, but the streaks make it non-usable in the menu section.

I Have a feeling that i might bre able to recover it with software by forcing it to have many screen refreshes, before I take it apart and force it via the ribbon cable. I can't really find much literature online about this, indeed most videos just point me to replacing the screen which I won't really want to do since it's not really worth it, but wanted to see if such software/tools exist within the JB scene?

If it's fine when reading a book then I'd assume it's not a hardware problem. Do the streaks appear in the original Kindle UI, the KOReader UI, etc.?

No it's more that it's tolerable when i'm reading, because the streaks aren't visible somehow through the text, but as you can see here in the menu and with the screensaver they're bad. https://imgur.com/a/quMxUDv

In the UI it's horrible, i haven't tried KOR reader

IMO it's horrible inside the book as well. I couldn't read like this.

Please do not use imgr for images. It cannot be viewed in the UK (we have a number of regulars from the UK) and a lot of time it's overloaded. The solution is to attach the images to your post instead.

It looks like a hardware problem with the video controller. The only solution you have its to get a new Kindle. But you would lose KOReader (if you use it).

Please do not accost people for using an image hosting site that they have every right to use here. You might want consider a friendlier approach if you want to win people over to your pet cause. I agree that the images would have me tossing the device—with great force—misquoting whomever first wrote: “This is not a novel to be thrown aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force.”

I've had this happen a couple of times over the past 18 or so years of using eink devices. (It happened suddenly with my Kindle Oasis...a fading screen that only got worse. That device looks exactly like yours.)

Trust me, yours will only get worse: The text will continue to fade, and then just reading upon that device will cause you to toss it into the toilet with a sense of liberation as your voice echoes off the bathroom walls..

apologies, I dont think i looked hard enough to see how i could attach the image directly to the site, I hate imgur because I know in 2 years time the images will be gone let alone 10 years time.

I guess this is what I was hoping for because it means the issue isn't with 'dead pixels' on the screen but can be sorted with a replaced video controller chip.

in anycase the responses here suggest that there's not much I can do and that there's not much that has been done.
