I like "The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas" as much as the next guy, but $11.99 for a 22 page short-story must be the most expensive price-per-page I've ever seen!

The used copies seem to be far more priced..

Books that are longlisted for the Booker and they're lousy. Not "not to my taste" lousy, but objectively lousy.

A lot of books up for awards are lousy. This is nothing new.

I dislike it when good writers decide to write outside their usual genre without taking the time to understand how to write in the new genre.

I like murder mysteries. I like SF. I like mysteries with SF elements and SF with a mystery element. But ONLY when both parts are done well.

This is too funny. Among other books, I'm currently reading an edition of Marie Antoinette's correspondence with her mother, Maria Theresa. The only book that Goodreads cites as other readers also enjoying is Hillbilly Elegy!

I think I'll pass, just the same.

Not a rant because I have no beef with it, but I really miss the occasional high value Kobo coupon, say 50%. It would justify my splurging on pricey books that I'd really like to read, but I just can't. There's one current book I'd like that costs $32 (Amazon wants $36) and there's no way I'm going to pay that for one book. There are too many other books out there and many already in my library. But for $16? I'd jump on it. It's still more than I'd usually pay but close enough to the psychological benchmark of $15 (especially with the Rakuten rebate) combined with the glow that comes with getting a good deal to get me to pull the trigger.

Oh, well. I do understand. As I said, not a rant.

Pardon, but did you tried to watch for it, e.g. on ebay.com?
Personally I was always feeling unkind to search for used books (as I know how I keep them, and I know that if I go 100 times at the toilet, while reading, I'd wash my hands 101 ones); but for a few novels that actually I can't find, if those have a layout not properly "tascable" and little texts, I feel fine with those sales (also, so often the persons whom keept them have a kind care about).

Many of us don't really want to read paper books anymore, used or new.

I miss the multiuse coupons they also used to have. I got a book for 61 cents from one.

Some of us don't even have the room for paper books! The collapse of one of my bookshelves from overstacking it is part reason I got eReader in first place

Yeah, much the same for me. I got an ereader because the entire apartment was full of my paper books. There literally was no place where to put any more.
