I only realised this was happening when I tried to install 9.6.0 from the version I updated to a couple of days ago.
It's still happening for me in 9.6.0 on Windows. On Linux, it seems to exit cleanly. |

FWIW, on Windows, I never saw that happen again since 9.5.101.

Ah.... the install must have failed. On start up, it's 9.5.101. Let me try again!

No, no difference after uninstall / reinstall.
This is what I see whilst it's running: ![]() When I exit, one of the "calibre-parallel.exe" processes exits but the other stays, along with the main process. Last edited by Comfy.n; 04-01-2026 at 12:14 PM. Reason: corrected truncated IMG inline attachment |

Are you sure you've not enabled the calibre systray icon? It could be actually running on your system tray.

(on Windows) I had a long running instance of calibre (since 9.6 update) and it seemed to be running slowly. After quitting it would not start up (don't remember error box).
Task Manager showed 'calibre worker process' still running. Killed that, and calibre started up and running normally. Last edited by tomsem; 04-01-2026 at 02:15 PM. |

I had this same problem after upgrading from 8 to 9, 9 would not close, but it has been resolved as follows..
The root problem was duplicated books in library, for some reason 8 has no problems and will open and close normally. But after upgrading Calibre 9 would hang when closing. In the end I found the duplicate problem by using the portable version and importing the existing library, during the import process Calibre reported duplicates. I removed the duplicates and version 9 now opens and closes normally. Perhaps this points to a problem in version 9. Last edited by cpcfreak; 04-13-2026 at 01:02 AM. |
