I usually download everything as epub too, but I've tried the obok plugin just to know that it can be done. It's easy enough to remove the kepub bits with the Modify Epub plugin.

My K5 (aka K4BNT) started refusing to download books today, instead telling me: "Your download was not successful. Please try again."
By coincidence, I purchased a few books yesterday, which downloaded and DeDRMed just fine, but a new book purchased today won't download. As a test, I removed the new books I downloaded yesterday and tried re-downloading them, but today they won't download. I tested a variety of books including very old ones, and ones I think were .mobi only, and those also won't download. In the past when my K5 K4BNT balked at downloading, I restarted it, and that did the trick. Today, restarting (3 times) did nothing. Is it just me, or has Amazon finally pulled the plug on downloads to K5 K4BNT (firmware 4.1.4) and possibly other older, pre-KFX Kindles? Fwiw, my 8th gen Oasis running firmware 5.8.11 (I've blocked software updates) can still download books, and the KFX can be decrypted. ETA: I did more experimenting and discovered that I am still able to "deliver" books to my K5 K4BNT by going to Amazon's website and going through Content Library > Books > Deliver or remove from device. Then when I go to my K5 K4BNT and sync, the book will be delivered, though I had to restart it one more time. However, if I navigate to the book on my K5 K4BNT itself (Archived library) and click on it, it will not download. Instead, I still get the "Your download was not successful. Please try again" error. Both of my K4NTs (black and gray) still download books. So it's either a temporary glitch, or Amazon is disabling old Kindles gradually.

I just downloaded 5 "freebies" to my black K5/K4NT? on 4.1.4. But I do worry about the gradual roll out thing...

To be honest, this doesn't feel so much like Amazon deliberately pulling the plug on older Kindles as much as it feels like deprecated software being broken by new processes and not being fixed because the deprecated software is ... well ... deprecated. |

Hmm. I was able to download from Archives on both of my K4NTs. So whatever the change is, it seems to be gradual, i.e. hasn't reached my devices yet.

It's certainly possible this is a glitch for me that will work itself out. Who knows?!

I use my K4 and K3 frequently and they are both working just fine. I'd recommend factory resetting the K4, although that would then require re-registering, which is a pain in the ass.
BTW, why do y'all use all those letters after the K4? There's K4 (which is grey), Kindle Touch which you could abbreviate KT , and K5 (the black one). We don't say "K5NP" (kindle 5th gen non-paperwhite). I use this list of generations as reference - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazon_Kindle |

Also, KOA3 is really KO3. The A is the start of a word on it's own. |

I have a K4NT. The NT is Non-touch (screen). I really dislike touch screens as I have big hands, and lousy fine finger control (I have never been able to touch type and it has gotten worse with age)
The color letter is mostly for Inventory folk. AFAIK there is no diff with the guts. |

You could rebadge the K4NT as the Īmmanuel
