Report conversion error or not?

I am new to this forum, so please be gentle with me.

I have a couple of epub files which I converted to AZW3 a few days ago using Calypso (v9.5).
When I loaded them onto my Kindle (v5.19.2) and opened them, they both raised a text box containing An error occurred (followed by a smug Amazon suggestion which is no help at all). As a baseline, I tried a third file - converted, loaded and opened in the same way, it worked with no problem.

Initially, I intended to report a conversion failure in relation to the first two files. But then I learned that Kindle users were reporting problems with the v5.19.2 firmware, and it occurred to me that it may be a better choice to wait a while to see if some of these issues are resolved. Which in turn may make my error message go away.

Could I have some advice please.

I have no idea what Calypso is. But you are best to use calibre 9 to convert to KF8 for your Kindle.

I would suspect that Calypso 9.5 is an autocorrect of calibre 9.5 though I might be wrong.

And yes, there have been issues reported with sideloaded files and Kindles. I don't know if they are going to go away since Amazon seems to have little interest in the problem going by their "tech support" responses.

If it is an autocorrect, it's a very odd autocorrect.

I would recommend just sending the ePub to your Amazon account using Amazon's Send to Kindle service.

It would probably be helpful to report the error, using a scrambled version of the ePub.

The simplest fix is to simpy convert to MOBI instead of azw3, that typically dumbs down the markup enough for amazons renderer to handle.

Thanks for all the responses - i have now tried out epubcheck and the internal error check in Calibre and while some errors were corrected, the final AZW3 is still faulty. But i have learned a lot about Calibre along the way. Thx for the tip about MOBI. I will try it out.

My final post on this thread - 2 questions:
Q1: do i have the responsibility or the ability to close or delete this thread
Q2: Is there a facility to send the contents of a thread to my email address

1) MR normally does not close valid (not spam or in violation of guidelines) threads.
Moderators (see list at bottom of the main forum level) can move , in case you posted wrong place (or delete if really necessary). Just PM one of them . Some of us are more active than others You really don't want the other way to get deleted (that is a COMPLETE delete = 'banned' )
Your Thanks for a SOLVED issue (which you did), gives a clue

2) A good question that I have no clue. For this at least a Greenie level mod might have the answer

I just found the answer to my question about capturing the content of a thread - it's in the drop-down menu under Thread Tools.

Q2 - most browsers provide the wherewithal to email a link to current page. I say 'most' because current Edge only provides that facility if it's the default browser -

I think you'll find that sends a link, not the content.
