Enhance insert tag/fragment tool
In Calibre editor, currently we have two tools (amongst others) which are very useful for my needs :
1) The "Insert a tag" tool which allows to open a tag before selected text and to close it after selected text 2) The "fragment" tool which allow to insert some structured text by hitting Control+J just after have entered some trigger text Is there a way to have the possibility, like the insert tag tool, to open a tag with attributes before selected text and to close it after selected text. Example : I select "blabla" then I use Insert_a_tag tool "p". It is transformed to Quote:

If there is no way, Kovid, could you add that feature ? |

It is in the add tags tool at the top of a code view screen. You can define tags to add:

Add tag tool is easier to use. With snippets we have to hit twice Ctrl-J, but management of snippets is more enhanced than Add tag management.
Kovid, could you add the ability to edit existing tags in add tag tool ? Currently we can just delete or add tag but not edit it. And even manage a list of tags (with or withut attributes) ordered by tag and with folding ability. For example we should have this list : Code:
+ p p class="class1" p class="class2" lang="fr-FR" + span span class="big" span class="small" div h1 Last edited by jjk; 02-24-2026 at 03:43 PM. |

My add tags tool is so over-filled its many columns extend to the right beyond the screen. I cannot access to delete any or all of them. Is there any way to edit the list directly? (My kludge buildup here is from many years of experimentation. I have always used the shift-ctrl-arrow-left and there is no way I see to edit or delete when using it that way.)

You can always just edit the list directly in the config file, tweak_book_gui.json

"You can always just edit the list directly in the config file, tweak_book_gui.json"

tag editor, classes, style, and snippets
The insert tag of 9.4 looks very nice; easy to use and understand. I appreciate this enhancement and will be using and enjoying it. I do all my writing in the text editor of calibre itself and also use the snippet feature in combination with inserting tags. Beyond that, I adhere to a heretical sect and frequently used classes beyond styles. My CSS is chock full of .this and .that, usually they are dot followed by first letters of the style phrase. For example:
.bgclg {background-color: lightgray;}, .db {display: block;}, .df {display: flex;}, .dg {display: grid;}, .dib {display: inline-block;}, .dn {display: none;}, .tac {text-align:center}, .aic {align-items:center}, .jcsa {justify-content:space-around}, .jcse {justify-content:space-evenly} I have a hundred of these and some cannot be used commercially due to constraints and limitations of various reading devices. However, the usage is very simple: just plunk down <sometag class=""> then insert the class shortcut letters (without the dot) and calibre also puts in the closing tag. Editing is very simple; just put in a different or more tags. My CSS is an ever-expanding list. Unused entities are deleted upon finalization of .epub file, so it ends up clean. When I hit C in the main screen the .epub renders into .pdf acceptable to Amazon for paper books. Easy-peasy. Best regards, Pop |
