Referencing correct font-style/weight files

In this thread, they briefly discussed that, in some cases Koreader will take a single otf/ttf file and synthesize its own italic and bold versions rather than referencing the added italic and bold font files (instead, these styles show up as separate base font families).

Does anyone know a) what causes Koreader to fail to recognize all the files as part of the same family, and b) how to fix it?

You can see in crash.log which exact font files got a “Pass” from KOReader and which ones were rejected. It is somewhere close to the lines after KOReader starts. They say something like “Registering font NAME…”.

Most of them (at the least the way I understand it) there is an issue in how fields of the font title, family, etc are filled out. They either don’t match exactly across the same family of fonts or simply missing.

You should be able to read these metadata and fix them with tools like Font Forge.

@mergen3107 - Oh dear... it appears you've created a monster. I've always been vaguely curious about tweaking fonts and now... well... you've opened up pandora's box.

Also, you were absolutely right. Metadata for the font in question had the font names (eg XXX-Italic, XXX-Regular, XXX-bold) embedded as the font family rather than just "XXX".

Have a look at the ChareInk7SP in the first post of this thread. I modified them from Charis Sil v7. https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...ad.php?t=18405 Thry have all of the 4 needed variations. Regular, Bold, Italic, and BoldItalic.
