I've tried to fetch metadata from Goodreads on a few occasions. I was not happy with the fetched metadata any of the times. Trivia such as series names/indexes, layout of the fetched description, etc. were incorrect, totally munged, etc. As for the Goodreads ID, I'm assuming you mean their Work ID. Which is rather useless other than for Goodreads.

I fill all the metadata in manually, no downloads. I'm never satisfied with downloaded metadata and correcting it would take me more time than just copy/pasting it in the first place.

Nothing except for the title and author, unless you have a plugboard set up (for example, adding the series information to the title). Many people want their books to have detailed and elaborate metadata in calibre, whether or not their ereader can display it. Others don't much care.

I use the ctrl-D download. If I like the right side (existing) I click the arrow. I also edit the retrieved comments to remove fluff (I just want a synopsis)
I do wish it would allow custom columns on the left side, allowing me to move or enter stuff without launching the MDE afterwards . |
