Eliminate Top/Bottom White Space on Page

Hello, I'm an ebook newbie and total dullard when it comes to coding. I'm in the process of formatting an ebook with Calibre editor, but when I preview the book in Kindle Reader or on KDP's online previewer, there's too much white space above and below the text.

Is there an overarching setting in CSS that controls that feature?

Most of that is the KINDLE. Margins top and bottom.

Do check the Margins in the BODY in your book. IIRC the big A dislikes you setting those on books for sale (their store).

Thanks, that's what I figured. I looked at other ebooks on my Kindle Reader and it's the same.

Right now the margin is set to 5%:

body {
margin: 5%;
font-size: 100%;
font-family: "GaramondRegular", serif;
line-height: 1.35em;

I don't want to make it 0% because it also affects the left-right margin.

It might be several things. Top and bottom margin, or widows and orphans. Hard to say without seeing the code.

5% is huge and is subject to USERS selected font.
Then you added line-height: (1.2 is standard and default)

Delete line-height. Let your readers set their own.
Ditto for body margins.

And set widows and orphans to 1. This is what I do...

  widows: 1;
  orphans: 1;
  margin-top: 0;
  margin-right: 0;
  margin-bottom: 0;
  margin-left: 0;
  text-align: justify;
}
p {
  margin-top: 0;
  margin-bottom: 0;
  widows: 1;
  orphans: 1;
  text-indent: 1.2em;
}

You can add windows and orphans to any other CSS entry you feel they may be needed.
