Well, I'm a laptop user, strictly speaking (have never had a desktop, although I've used them at work, of course).

Yep, I moved to use laptop decades ago, never had a desktop afterwards. So I'm kind of mobile in this regard

I considered a Laptop as just a portable desktop because it still has a real keyboard and mouse (not a touch only input).

Just like Landline phones, many of my acquaintances, ONLY use a phone or tablet (mostly i-pad) for all internet access. Not even a hardwire Ethernet connection.

Yeah. I don't much like touchscreens, although with smartphones they're a necessary evil (wouldn't want to carry an attached keyboard around with my phone).

I mostly use a laptop. But I do a mini-PC as a desktop. The only thing it needs is a screen. I have a wireless keyboard and mouse to go with it. So as long as I have a monitor or TV to plug it in to, it's good to go. Right now, it's plugged into my 65" 4K OLED TV.

What I am getting at is that there is no alternative caliber. There can be similar things in the actions and of different aesthetic styles. But they are not as developed as caliber is maintained.

Yes, you're absolutely right. The ones I've tried (Alfa Ebooks and now Octary) have been very far from calibre in functionality. This, of course, may be what many people want, as there are regular complaints about calibre being "bloated" and overwhelming.

Well, not me. I'll go on happily using calibre and its many fascinating functions. Besides, considering its age, complexity and that it's a free program, calibre is amazingly smooth, well-working and bug-free. I've used it without issues on many different computers since Windows Vista.

I could go on raving about calibre, but y'all know it all already.

caliber is not as good as calibre.

Sometimes it happens to me too, in french 'calibre' can be translated literally as 'caliber' in english. Funny thing is depending as if I put a upper letter in front to make it as a name, some app preserve it durring the translation.

(depending of the moment, is much easier to write in you own language, then auto-translate and check it)

Only American English due to Webster. It's always calibre in UK & Ireland.
Webster seems to have hated anything with even an appearance of French, hence all the endings changed. He was not reflecting universal American usage.
