If you're interested in portable Linux AppImage format then checkout https://github.com/ivan-hc/Calibre-appimage the unofficial AppImages are update-able via the developer's packaging manager AM: https://github.com/ivan-hc/AM
The developer just included the preview/beta packaging as per my request : https://github.com/ivan-hc/AM/issues/2050 ThankYou --- Unofficial Calibre installation via AM/AppMan appman -i calibre am -i calibre for preview appman -i calibre-preview am -i calibre-preview for betas appman -i calibre-beta am -i calibre-beta Last edited by shuvashish76; 01-28-2026 at 10:03 PM. |

Are you 100% sure this code actually works and it the current up-to-date code?

Yes the AppImages are built on top of the official binaries.

The GitHub workflow runs at schedule to check update, build AppImage then publish.
Stable: once every week Sunday (7:00 AM UTC) Preview: twice a day (12:00 PM and 12:00 AM UTC) Beta: with recurring 3-day cycle (8:00 AM UTC) All traditional distros take some time to push new updates. Even the bleeding edge Arch isn't close enough to getting Calibre latest: https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/calibre/ I think the current cycle is good enough. If you think more faster updates is necessary or face any issues related to AppImage builds please report at developer's repo issue tracker. Last edited by shuvashish76; 01-31-2026 at 10:16 AM. |

For Arch, it is preferable to use the AUR package because it use the official binarie,
rather to try to use the extra depot one because it try to rebuild the dependencies of Calibre wich is not recomanded to do so (source of bugs). (fortunatly, your suggested unoficial AppImage don't make this mistake) And AUR is up-to-date (~24h) https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/calibre-bin Last edited by un_pogaz; 02-01-2026 at 05:28 AM. |

That's patch number. If they notice any issues or minor bugs etc. that's how they patch it.
[e.g: If you remember the major xz vulnerability news that's how they quickly downgraded (as patched) it without affecting upstream future versions. https://gitlab.archlinux.org/archlin...ages/xz/-/tags vs https://github.com/tukaani-project/xz/releases Last edited by shuvashish76; 02-02-2026 at 11:54 PM. |

Is not a patch to calibre itself, it a patch number for the AUR package. By example, if the AUR package 9.1.0-1 used the wrong link to the target version 9.1.0, the AUR package 9.1.0-2 will be the patch to fix that.
Else the AUR package use/warp the official binary installer, here with I recomand it. |

For god's sake, Jon, you clearly don't understand how packages are versioned on Arch, so why not stay out of it?

Jon doesn't use Linux, let alone AppImages. On Arch or otherwise. He's completely out of his depth, but pretending otherwise. It's pointless for him to participate.

I wouldn't be so harsh in my judgment @DiapDealer, from an outside perspective, it is very relevant to ask why the versioning of AUR package work like that.
