Sort of related, can't Kobos be shutdown, where as Kindles can't?

Kindles don't have total shutdown, it's a kind of "deep" sleep / hibernation that is very power efficient and the wake up is very fast. On the contrary, Kobos have total shutdown but the start up is really slow, so it's a pain to use it with the parameters available right now.

I guess it depends on one's definition of "very power efficient". I just turned ny PW3 on, and the battery was at 28%, and I charged it about a month ago ( I haven't used it since then).

I’ve read somewhere that Kindles have both hardware and software power optimisations, while Kobo relies on software only.
I was using KOReader on my Libra 2, and the battery life was so bad I rather went back to Nickel instead. I'm not a fast reader, but still, even with Nickel one charge only lasts for 1 or 2 longer books and that's it. Have to add that I always use the Libra somewhere between 20% and 85% battery charge. When I posted my previous message, I charged both the Clara HD and PW4 to 100%. I closed their covers. This was around 20:00 on 2026-Jan-26. I just opened both covers. The Clara HD got to the home screen faster than the PW4 which displayed it's waking up message for a few seconds. The Clara HD still shows 100% when I tap on the battery icon while the PW4 shows 96%. I'll check in a week or so and see what the power levels show as.
One caveat is this is being done from the software battery gauges on both devices and those are pretty notorious for not being very accurate. |

This should be implemented by Kobo in the stock firmware, current values are absurd.

The patching power-off patch doesn't work. I've tried it. Patching the sleep timeout does work.
