Yesterday I saw that there was a leak in the roof, around the pipe from the ventilation system water was coming in.
So we called around and found a roofer that was able to come by this morning to check it out. Luckily it'll be an easy fix; the cap on top of the pipe is broken and needs to be replaced. He has to order it, but he should be able to fix it next week. Luckily dry weather is predicted this week. For the past six months my sister has been looking for a roofer off and on to get a roof inspection done. Several said they would call back to book an appointment, but they never did. She found one and was able to get an appointment, he was supposed to show up between 0730 and 0800 am so we got up extra early for him not to show up and never called my sister. The roofer just came by and he also checked out the 20 year old dormer window, we knew it didn't have a (proper) drain, so it was full of water. Also because of the age the bitumen needs to be replaced, which he can also do next week. Plus put in a more durable repair on one of the gutters (previous owners had it repaired, but not in the best way). He's also going to give us a quote for putting in a small roof window over the laundry nook, it would be nice to have some daylight there and another option to ventilate besides having the doors and windows up in my rooms. It isn't even 9am yet and we've already had an exciting morning. |

Had recrudescence of stroke (where symptoms return, but not new stroke), ended up in hospital.

We had the roofers in today. Because of the way our house is build it was most practical for them to work through the dormer window in my bedroom.
I just spend the last hour, after them leaving, cleaning my room. The window and surrounding area they used for access was filthy. Stains all over the floor and black bits scattered throughout. My bed was also full of black bits and there was a big, black smudge on my fitted sheet. Hopefully I can get it out, it's now in the washing machine on the long program. Worst is that my sister asked them, repeatedly, to take of their shoes when going up and down the stairs. Not even two months ago we had the stairs recarpeted. Now the stairs to the attic have stains all over them. My sister is now scrubbing away, hopefully getting the stains to lift. Yesterday was a busy day (we went out to dinner and then to a stand up comedy show), so I was still tired from that this morning. Today I couldn't retreat to my safe space (my rooms) and had to hang out in the living room where the roofers were in and out constantly. Now with the added mess I'm feeling very stressed out and exhausted. |

My sister did get the stains out of the carpet on the stairs. The stain on my sheets came out for 99%, considering it's in a place where it's usually covered up I'm not replacing them. The black bits are the worst; we got most of it cleaned, but we're still finding them scattered about. They're difficult to vacuum up, some didn't want to vacuumed up and I had to pick them up with a damp cloth/wipe. My sister also wanted to get a window installed in the roof this autumn, but I talked her out of that. One, it isn't something we need right now. It's more of a nice thing to have (daylight and being able to open the window in summer for ventilation). Also the this is the wet time of the year, it would just make more sense to get it done in spring when there's less chance of rain. She agreed, thankfully. |

You know you're old when you have to power nap after raking the leaves off your driveway
OTOH you know you're not over the hill when you can still rake the leaves off your driveway Last edited by poohbear_nc; Yesterday at 08:46 PM. |

Coworkers that don't ask for help and end up annoying the rest of us.
Instead of asking for help with monitor settings, he just physically moved the monitors. Now, when anyone else docks their laptop to that station (and we all rotate stations), their settings are messed up. All because he didn't ask how to fix his settings. First thing tomorrow, I have to flop the monitors back. One is an inch or so bigger than the other and the current placement messes up the desk flow. I was too busy today to do it so I was annoyed all day. |
