Ray thought of writing a standalone post-apocalyptic story about the Internet failing about 10 years ago as more services changed to Internet connection instead of leased line, dialup/ISDN. More using Cloud instead of their own servers. Real time POS to Cloud instead on an in shop server nightly batching to HQ via dialup or Internet.

Millions dying. Civilisation doomed etc.

He framed it as real stuff in a fantasy setting instead, "No Silver Lining".

It is one of those sites that is behind a paywall if the relevant javascript is enabled. So just disable javascript, or use "NoScript" or similar.

(Edit. I had great difficulty posting the above, I kept getting a "This action is temporarily rate limited. Please retry in a few seconds." error. Are there any known current issues with MobileRead?)
