Tidying up Clara BW books

I have a relatively small ebook library (under 900 books), and prefer to keep them all on my Clara BW, since I have plenty of memory. I also manage them in Calibre.

I recently went through the Calibre library and got rid of a lot of duplicates, mostly because of authors being in both first name/last name order and vice versa, and some unneeded format. But now that the Calibre library is cleaned up, how do I clean up the books on the Kobo?

I suspect the easiest might be to reset the Kobo and copy everything over again. I'm not opposed to this, but if there's an easier way, I'd love to hear it. And if this is something better handled in Calibre, I'm happy to be redirected to those forums as well.

I'll assume that you deleted the duplicates from your library. If so, when the device is attached look to the device view in Calibre. You should see an In Library column. Sort on this and those books not in your library should be the ones you want to delete. You may find a few surprises in there so exercise some caution. You do have the option to import these into your library if the surprise is a good one. I did all this just now and found some books I purchased from Kobo that never made it to my Calibre library.

Well, that's how I do it, so I wouldn't want to dissuade you from this approach. I've also switched my Kobo to sideloaded mode and do all of my book management in Calibre.

Having said that, @jkrzok's approach would be a good alternative. Whatever you do, heed their warning about possible surprises.

One surprise might be that some books in your Calibre library and also on the device might not be matched up - i.e. a book on your device might not appear to be the same book as is in your library. This is particularly likely if you've edited the metadata in Calibre, e.g., by deleting the cruft that publishers sometimes add to the title ("one of the most gripping crime thriller books of the year!").

Calibre's "Match book to library" function can be used to fix these little misunderstandings.

Thanks for your response...but I don't see a "In Library" column when the Kobo is attached (including in the column picker I get when right-clicking on the column headers). I do see the "On Device" column.

"On Device" is replaced by "In Library" when you go to device view (by clicking on the Device button in the toolbar).
