My comment was about your claim that Kobo origami cases could bend into the screen and break it. I have never heard of this happening in normal use, i.e. without something impacting the front of the case hard enough to bend the cover into the screen in which case the results were extremely likely to have been worse without a cover.

And as I asked earlier, how many time have you heard of a Kobo origami cover bending into the screen and breaking it?

Uhh sorry, I missed that.
Well, not many cases, but there was an actual example on reddit. Not sure if it was the Libra 2 or the Colour that was the victim, but the dude had a cracked screen inside an origami case. I can’t find the original post now, but it was definitely there.

It was a very worn out case, so it’s probably more of a PEBKAC issue than the sole fault of the origami case. But it seemed like the case was so worn out that the folding parts couldn’t hold it anymore and bent into the display area, which led to a cracked screen.

Of course, things like that can happen due to user error and/or carelessness. Personally, I’d always make sure to prevent something like that.

So my judgement came from that particular case and from the overall, mostly bad opinion about the official kobo origami cases: expensive, low quality, and prone to very early deterioration. That leaves a lot of uncertainty about them. Feel free to disagree, but I’m certain I’d avoid any origami cases because of the probability that they’ll fail and wreck the device.

It was a water bottle pressing on the cover causing the device to break. The argument wasn't to not use covers at all, it was to prefer covers with a rigid flap protecting the screen if the Kobo is going to be put into a bag with other items. Origami covers provide lesser protection from direct pressure.

Perhaps you might want to revisit the Matcha has two cracks thread in the Kindle Forum? Pay particular attention to the author of messages #4, #7, #11, #15, #21 & #23 in that thread.

I agree with the author that Finte case do not last all that long. However, they ar e not too tight. The bit where the Reader sits is OK.
