Thanks. I actually even have Guards! Guards! in my library, bought when discounted a few years ago.

Edit: hah, and it's even on my Kobos!

Here's something I wrote about Pratchett and Guards! Guards! when issybird asked what his books are like.

@Sirtel, there's a two-part adaptation of The Colour of Magic. It covers The Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic. It's actually quite good. It means you can easily get past the first two books.

It's like other things I've seen where I would not read the book, but the adaptation was good enough to watch.

I'm about 70% through a 900 page Sci-Fi book by a certain author. I've just hit a plot revelation that is so completely stupid and insulting that I almost want to put the book down. But I've already invested so much time into getting this far and in reading the previous book in the series that I feel like I should still finish it.

Let's just say, I probably should have stayed away from anything the author published after he wrote this. I knew about that short story, and it was detestable, but I didn't think his politics was going to start bleeding into his books.

I was wrong. I'm also not the only one, evidently, who was taken out of the book by it.

Oh dear. I loved Dan Simmons and read everything of his I could find up until Endymion. Haven't read anything by him since and maybe that's a good thing by the sound of it.
