But I also sometimes get up early, then doing a breakfast and going back for a 2 hours nap, and on those times, within digestion not even started, the sleep gets heavy. Won't rant about it btw .

I would add the people who request help and then start considering that help as something that I owe them. No thanks necessary since you 'owe' them that help. Some resemblance to a quoted quote from David Carradine as Caine in Kung Fu: 'Whenever someone saves another's life, he's responsible for him forever.'

I don't need profuse thanks if I helped you, but I would like a statement of resolution.

It's like my people skills deficient (former) doctor who thought that a copy of a lab report was sufficient closure to an episode. "I'm an engineer, Jim, not a doctor." My previous acceptable doctor would at least scrawl, "All ok, good to go." |

I might have overdone my cross stitching.

I think a muscle in my neck (behind the right ear) is inflamed. It comes with a general, low-grade head ache and if I cough/sneeze/bend forward it hurts above my right eye. Monday was the worst, even with painkiller I felt the pain. Since then it's a bit better, though this morning my right ear is joining in. It isn't painful, it feel a bit numb and buzzy. Considering the attitude of Dutch doctors ("take some paracetamol and if it isn't better in two weeks you can make another appointment") I'm not going to contact my doctor's office yet. Unless it gets worse in the coming days or if there isn't any improvement by Monday I'll see what happens. Mind you, with my history with GPs they probably say it's stress/anxiety. It's my own fault; I have been cross stitching a lot because I'm just so fed up with my current project and want to finish it ASAP. So for now: no cross stitching or any crafts for that matter. It'll give me a chance to finish my book and maybe do some light gaming. |

My experience today was miles better than with my old doctor's office. The assistant was a lot nicer and after describing everything she managed, despite it being a really busy time, to squeeze me in tomorrow. She told me it was good I was taking painkillers and I should continue doing so. I also should keep moving my neck, but not overdo it and keep the area warm. Now I'm slightly nervous, because I'm used to the message "take some painkillers and if it isn't better in two weeks call back for an appointment". She also moved some things around to fit in my appointment, so was she worried? When I'm there tomorrow I'll see if I can already sign up for the flu shot and if I can make another appointment to get the ball rolling for an autism and ADHD assessment. |

As expected I've overworked my trapezoid muscle. Luckily there's no infection or inflammation, so the signals that that was going was just my body being dramatic.

For now take it easy, keep moving, take painkillers when needed and keep the area warm. Today I'm doing better than yesterday. My ear is almost back to normal again. It's just a sore neck, radiating up giving me a headache and down giving me a sore shoulder as well. I've let go of the idea of finishing my current cross stitch project before my vacation. Hopefully I can ease back into cross stitching next week, because I'm missing it. |

One acquaintance had their home's sewer connection clogged when her husband was getting ribs ready for a weekend barbecue. The first step was boiling them. After boiling 4 or 5 batches, he had let the water cool a bit and then dumped it down the kitchen sink. This increased the size of a fatberg in the sewer pipe to the point that there was almost no flow. The painful part was that while the plumber was able to clear the clog after locating it, the city refused to pay for any of the cost of the excavation though the actual blockage was well outside their home.

It happened, few years ago. They had to turn off the water entirely for a few hours. The plumbers discovered lots of q-Tips and plastic shopping bags (legal until 2020) in one of the main pipes.

Hence the "again." Trying to remove smell. No window and small room. Ventilation fan going and vinegar and baking soda. Last edited by ownedbycats; 09-14-2025 at 01:17 PM. |

At one time, you can get an ozone generator but, IIRC, they are no longer approved for home use in Canada. They were handy when an animal died under a portable classroom.

It absorbs the actual stinky molecules. I'd try to find the unscented version. |

I can remember a time when the canals in Utrecht were basically an open sewer. All the building along it would drain directly into it.

In the mid 80s they finally installed proper sewer drain pipes in the canal. But in their infinite wisdom they install that main drain a bit higher than the drains from the houses (10 to 15cm). Which causes loads of problems because you get a build up of solids at that lip, eventually causing things to eventually block. Especially with restaurants and cafés. When living there it was an almost daily occurrence to see vans from companies specialized in unblocking sewers in the city center. A neighbour across the street, who owned a café installed a sewage pump to solve the problems once and for all. Tip for absorbing nasty smells: if it's sewage smell try lighting a candle, it "burns" away the smell. Coffee is also good in absorbing nasty smells (whole beans work best). |
