Removal of automatically-created kepub files
I am using Calibre 8.4 to transfer books to my Kobo Clara HD. I have removed all the 'old' Kobo extensions except DeDRM.
When sending new epubs to my device, Calibre correctly automatically converts the epub to kepub, and uploads the kepub - all good.
The problem is that I now have both epub and kepub versions of each book in my Calibre library, I can manually delete the kepub version but I thought Calibre is supposed to automatically remove the kepub after upload? Is there a setting I need to tweak to prevent Calibre from keeping the kepubs?

Are yo making a KEPUB before sending?
You don't need to do that. The driver does an on-the-fly conversion, that never lands into the Library, only the Kobo

No, I'm definitely not doing any manual conversion. I just add the new epub to Calibre, connect the Kobo and click the Send to Device button.

Check the formats in the driver settings. Epub must be checked.

The conversion (added to Library) happens when a approved (tick) format is not available.

You do not need to change it FROM. Just add a tick .That way, if you do purchase KEPUB and put those in your Library, they can be sent UNCONVERTED to your Kobo.

Ticks indicate formats that a device can handle.

The order of appearance of the ticked (no need to bunch) is the priority if more than 1 format is available, that will be chosen to be sent.

Auto convert (your initial issue) happens when the Library did not have a version that was ticked.
