So the dvdfab obok would also be inoperable, so no need to buy dvdfab obok now?

If you trust DVDFab, they will crack the new DRM as soon as it changes. That's what they've been doing on a lot of platforms.

Personally, I don't see a reason to purchase the DVDfab stuff now. YMMV.

I also had to "fiddle around a bit to get the first download working." But "once it starts downloading, though, it seems to stabilize." I'm not sure if the fiddling around with it has to do with where you're located. I'm in Canada but the application initially brought me to Amazon.com in the built-in browser. But I changed it to Amazon.ca and logged into my account there. It kept on trying to switch back to Amazon.com and when I tried to download a book it appeared to get stuck on the "Analyzing..." stage. When it finally said it was downloading the book it would fail. So, I restarted both K4PC and BookFab several times and then eventually I was able to download the first book. The second book then downloaded seamlessly. Last edited by toady42; 05-12-2025 at 02:35 PM.

With DVDFab Kindle Converter, can you get a DRM free KFX that you can import into calibre to use KFX Input to do the conversion to ePub?

I have high hopes for the DVDFab product based on their history, I used to use their DVD tools waaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy back in the day. Unfortunately, my first trial of their Kindle product isn't going so well, even with Kindle for PC installed and authorized BookFab for Kindle just keeps telling me it couldn't detect a valid authorization. Hopefully their support is quick to respond, I have a suspicion about what might be causing the issue but I'd like them to look before I change anything.

I suspect that they haven't figured out the latest KFX DRM. They've just figured out a workaround for the April 22 limitation on older K4PC.

Until Rakuten actually does what you suggest may happen: "...Kobo could upgrade its DRM at any point in the future...", then I won't worry about it. And not pay some company for something that already exists. Your crystal ball perhaps needs some Windex...until then, the future is actually...in the future. YMMV, of course. BookFab Kindle Converter has not been released. It is supposed to be released next week: A quote from someone named "Mona", who is apparently on "the team", in response to an individual who acquired the BookFab Kindle Converter (Never Expire) product: "BookFab Kindle Converter has not been released yet. Sorry for the confusion. Please kindly wait for the upcoming version next week." The above quote/response was from 5/8/2025 and from Reddit.

It doesn't seem to matter which version of K4PC you log in with -- older or latest. But since the book isn't being downloaded with your own installation of K4PC, I suspect they've figured out how to download even books published after April 22 as if it is an older K4PC with older KFX DRM. Either way I'm never paying for DRM removal.
