KU, Send to Kindle, and Libby are among the most popular reasons. I know Kobo can do Libby. However, several people have multiple cards and they found it difficult to mangle them all with Kobo. Some people also like the simplicity of Kindle. They thought Kobo was too busy. Quote:
Feel free to come to r/Kindle and look it up yourself. My “famed repository” doesn’t have time to pull up individual posts for you. You are correct.

I barely read at all these days, so I'm pretty absent with ebook/amazon/kindle discussions too, but I was recently going through reddit and saw this post . I still have about 5k titles I need to make a back up of, and I totally missed the cut off date for download & transfer. I was thinking I'd just get to it someday because I still have my Kindle with me. Is that no longer an option (through Calibre)?

As for simplicity, I can attest to this too. I used to edit the heck out of my ebooks. Like stripping margins, maximizing screen real estate usage, etc. But now I can't be bothered to do all that. If my brain decides it wants to read, I just wanna read and take advantage of that

With both it is perfectly possible to take them out of the box, turn them on, login and start reading. Not sure how much less busy that could be. The reference issues with libraries was a nice reminder of how US-centric much commentary is, as gaining library access was the major reason I switched from Kindle back in 2018. In Aotearoa, as in many other countries, there is no library access for Kindles, only Kobos - and indeed Kobo makes much of that feature ins marketing for those countries. |

OTOH, considering that Kindle ebooks are only available from some libraries inside the USA whereas a Kobo can use any library supporting downloadable ePub files, I find some humour in people claiming that Kindles are better for use with libraries.

The discussion was about Kindle Reddit, of which JBaby is a mod. And yes, it was mentioned before.
