Hey!

When I download from FF.net, the cover won't download?
I see the cover page opening when I download with open_page_in_browser, so FFF at least try to download them, but they don't appear once the story is downloaded.

I know that FF.net is broken as a general rule, but is it normal or is it a bug on my end?

I assume you check cover settings already. Also check there isn't an accidential never_make_cover in your personal.ini.

Still, sometimes happens to me on newly-downloaded fics. I not sure why. Paste the cover to Calibre and use Polish (or Modify ePub plugin) to embed it and it should stick on future updates.

It could be that the image didn't process. I'd have to see the story in question to do more than speculate.

If I have a story in my library from one site and try to add it from another site with the same title and author, it will ask me if I want to update the URL for the existing story. If I tell it no, then it asks if I want to add a new book with that URL.

Now, if I find that story on a third site and try to add it, it complains that it doesn't know which story to update, which is understandable, but then it just quits rather than asking if I want to add a new book with that URL.

So, how hard would it be to have it ask that?

It's not a big deal, so I'm not going to ask for it unless it's a pretty simple change. It takes a few steps, as I have to add an empty book, set the ID, and then Overwrite Always, but it's not difficult to do. It just would be nice if it asked...

PS: Before you ask why, I tend to add a book for each site because I've had quite a few authors get fed up with a particular site and remove their story. I have one story that was being published on at least three sites through book 1, but only one site is getting book 2 chapters.

I'll look. But there's no need to go through that many steps manually; you can switch to FFF's mode "Add New Book" for that URL.

applegaa, please give this a try. There's different messages when the duplicate books have the same URL in library vs same title/author.

This will only trip when there's:

• More than one book with the same story URL OR
• No book with matching story URL AND more than one book with same title/author AND "Search by Title/Author(s)" checkbox is on.

Note that even if there's more than one with the same title/author, if there's only one book with the same URL, FFF will update that book.

It works when I enter it manually, but it doesn't work automatically, even with username & password added to personal.ini. I put the username & password right after use_archiveofourown_gay:true

That suggests either a typo in one or the other, or you may have a % char in one--those need to be escaped by doubling to %%.

It did ask if I wanted to add it as a new book. However, when I clicked on yes, I got "Existing epub contains 18 chapters, web site only has 7. Use Overwrite or force_update_epub_always to force update."

When I checked, it added that error message to one of the two existing books with the same name and author. I don't know why it picked the one from RoyalRoad over the one from ScribbleHub, but it did.

I had some problems a little earlier tonight trying to download a couple of fics on A03 which was resulting in FFF throwing the continuous 525 Unhandled Exception errors. Not a single thing I tried that was previously discussed worked to fix it. And, one of the fics that was having problems was one that required you to be logged in to view it.

While trying to troubleshoot, I noticed that I was logged in to my A03 account in the web browser. When I logged out of my account in the browser, the metadata download in FFF immediately started working again.

That would seem to indicate that maybe one of the things Cloudflare is doing is monitoring and sometimes blocking simultaneous multiple device logins on the same account. It isn't always doing it, though, because I was apparently logged in to my account in the browser all day yesterday and didn't have any problems at all with about 12-14 total FFF downloads from A03 I did sporadically throughout the day yesterday. A couple of the URLs involved were also for fics that require you to be logged in to view them (which was why I happened to be logged in on account in the web browser in the first place).

Bringing this back, because I was having trouble downloading an isadulr_true fic today and logging out solved the problem.

I'm still having issues with fanfiction.net. Today, it isn't even opening the pages in my browser. I tried opening it and then updating, but that didn't work.
