8.1.1 duplicates calibre tools (viewer, editor) in system

after the issue with 8.1, i installed 8.1.1

but I have noticed that the tools are now duplicated, so now whenever i select an epub in finder, both 8.0.1 and 8.1.1 show up , duplicating the amount of tools , which is very annoying

this might have started with 8.1.0, im not sure. but it wasn't present on 8.0.1 for sure

macOS sonoma , macbook air m1

There are no changes in 8.1 that could possibly cause that, you presumably have installed two copies of calibre, delete one and you should be fine.

Hmm I only have one version installed , I just checked . Could you possibly help me find how to fix this and where the problem is ?

I installed 8.1 which had issues . so I reverted back to 8.0.1

then, after you posted the fixed update for macOS, I installed 8.1.1 and replaced 8.0.1 with it in the /applications folder

what did I do wrong ?

in your screenshot you can see entries for two versions of calibre either you have both installed or macOS hasnt updated its caches, a reboot should fix the latter.

Before I retired from IT, I had developed a love/hate relationship with telling people to reboot their computer. The love was that it worked over 90% of the time and the users were happy, the hate being that it didn't fix or even reveal the cause of the problem so all you'd done was to push the problem off to a future time.
