Dont know anyone who is interested in doing the work, and I certainly am not, Have already spent months on TTS and that's about as long as I have patience for. Relevant code is in gui2/tts folder. There are already three backends there.

I apologize if this has been asked before…

Is there a way to retrieve the metadata for tags ONLY from a file(s) most times my older romance books are being classified as unusable searches for me “Contemporary” “Romance” etc., which is what is being pulled from our current metadata plugins. There are instances where I may want to retrieve the original tag information from the file WITHOUT changing the comment(s), titles, series, authors, etc…

My second request is there a way to get the metadata for tags from “Romance.io” I noticed the tags are listed in two separate sections. Upon investigation I noticed that sometimes the two sections representing tags are not always the same. With the introduction of the new tags, I may have a little more leeway than a tag that says “romance’ or heaven forbid “paranormal romance”. If I could pull the consolidated data, I could then use the tag management system to customize.

Thanks for any guidance, these questions may be me not knowing where to look within Calibre.

I would like a plugin that checks if a new book entry has been added for a series in fantastic fiction and then creates that empty book in calibre with its future release date. An easy way to track when new books come out for series. It could probably do the same for all books of an Author as well not just series but I personally need it to keep track of the many series I am following.

I think a plugin or an update to the catalog generation would be very useful to collect extra data on books, such as the authors' biographies. I have tried to create a catalog and add the biographies column without success.

Which is the issue with the catalog? Mine include a lot of additional columns.

Catalog will be fine for me.
Could you please provide the name of the standard column or how to create the custom column showing !and exporting! autor notes.
I am able to create a custom column with autor notes content but that will be shown only in the gui and is empty when I export as csv.
I assume that Dunhill faces the same issue.

I think @capink has provided an Action chain based solution to @dunhill, I don't use Author notes or Action chains so I don't know if it works.

Exactly beyond having a custom column for the author's notes when generating the catalog field it comes out empty.

But I solved it with a chain action sequence that capink provided me in this thread (https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...86&postcount=4)

Chaley has already committed a fix to address the problem as posted here. Should be available in next calibre release.

A link in the book details pane that opens the book into Virus Total. Everyone from one time or another came across a dodgy book they added to their library and didn't think to scan it. This will give people some peace of mind, and ease of use to click a link - rather than open the browser go to the site, pull up the directory for the book and drag it in. There is an api for virus total.

Not sure if this needs to be a PI.
For Windows:
select book: Tap 'O': rightclick the format: Scan with Defender (I will assume alternate A/V will have registered and be on the context menu).
You could also create an entry in the Open With plugin to open a specific format with your A/V of choice.

The only way you'd even come across a dodgy eBook if you you got it from a dodgy place and in that case, you don't get help with it.

Not condoning illegal stuff. From a personal case when I was getting resources for homesteading there was a site that had a "free homestead on an acre guide" - downloaded it and glad I scanned it before opening it because it was infact dodgy.

I see a bunch of free pdf guides and stuff, a lot of times there is some great information, but every so often they can be scammy or be infected.

Heck I even had a book from Humble Bundle that threw flags on virus total some years ago.

I also collect user manuals for stuff, another area where you have to be careful.

Awesome! I had no idea 'O' opened up the file directory. Thank you, always nice to learn something new with Calibre.
