You should be able to run K4PC in a Windows VM. Just be sure to install K4PC and apply the anti-update hacks (search the forums, I don't have a direct link) while the VM is disconnected from the network.

FYI, user hollindale on the Kindle subreddit posted that he made a Tampermonkey script to mass download your books: "If anybody has a lot of books and wants to download everything in one go before they take the option away, I wrote a Tampermonkey script for myself that will go through a single page and download everything. You have to click through the pages, but it saves you clicking the same thing 25 times for each page and forgetting where you were in the list. https://github.com/chrishol/greasemo...indle-books.js" |

I've never thought Kindle trade-in is worth while, if a decent amount, then it's worth selling locally or giving to friend/family. A PW3 is still a decent model.

Going through my Kindle content on the website I noticed that there was an update to one the books. So I applied the update tehen selected D&T - THIS TIME, the message appeared. So it looks like my buying books from Kindle ends in no more than 11 days

Well, if the Scribe did PDF notes natively (no sending PDFs and annotations to Kindle or messing with Windows Amazon KFX creation tools), used USB mass storage and Amazon still have Download & Transfer and Amazon didn't mess up covers or delete ebooks or update without asking. Well, sorry, I forgot there was the 20% too. |

Also unlike an actual Kindle, they can easily insist only the latest Android, iOS and Fire apps are to be used. The app was free & without warranty? Hasn't Barnes & Noble done that?

Benefits of getting older: (1) Realizing that you can enjoy retirement because you have enough money for the rest of your life (2) Realizing that you have enough ebooks stored locally (and backed up), DRM free, converted and saved redundantly in both EPUB and AZW3 format, to last you for the rest of your life So I can be very selective regarding eBook purchases in the future. Amazon does not fit into that future any more (they were barely in it to begin with). Small loss for them. Zero loss for me. Fair enough - I am not distraught. Proper prior preparation in your workflow for every Amazon eBook purchase in the past sets you free for the future (B&N taught me this valuable lesson years ago). Those who didn't prepare in the past might want to seriously consider not postponing doing it now. Time is short for the Amazon case. Probably 99% of the readers here are already well prepared, so this is mostly an intellectual discussion, not a call for immediate action for the majority of us. I imagine the only action needed for many here is a quick review of their stockpile of eBooks to make sure they have a lifetime supply, and acquire more (outside of Amazon) if needed. For the unfortunate potential eventuality that other eBook vendors may try to do the same thing that B&N and Amazon have done. |

I certainly have enough books in my calibre library to last for several hundred years (I'm not a particularly fast reader). That doesn't mean I'm going to stop buying more ebooks. Not until there's still a way to remove DRM.
