Libra Colour Libra Colour jumping pages backwards on reopen

I've found that recently if I sleep my Kobo while reading a book, when I reopen it, it will locate me anywhere from two to over a dozen pages back from where I last had the book open.

Has anyone else run into this issue, know what's going wrong, or how I might be able to fix it?

Have you checked the bezel for crumbs with a soft toothbrush?

If you are using a sleep cover, take the Kobo out of the cover and use the button to put it to sleep/wake and see what happens.

I'm betting this happens when your Kobo has just been in a bag or something? Not just lying on a table?

I've had this happen too. Realized it was because the page turn buttons by default wake the device which then cause page turns. Uncheck "Wake up device with page turn button" in energy saving and privacy settings. Haven't had that happen since.

I’ve been detailing this problem on the firmware thread. I didn’t notice this happening until the latest update. A few of us have run into this, however. You’re not alone.

After extensive testing, I blame the sleep cover. I honestly believe something was changed in the firmware to make this a problem, but I have no evidence for that beyond anecdotal. But with the sleep cover on—and even with the sleep cover feature turned off—my books opened anywhere from pages to chapters away from my last page read—in either direction.

My solution has been to always exit the book to the Home Screen before closing the sleep cover. The problem seems to only happen when a book is active when the cover is closed. I’ve even had my KLC finish a book on me while the Kobo sat on a table untouched & unused. It’s definitely a weird bug, but I’ve been too busy with a death in the family and weeks of sickness to spend time complaining about it to Kobo. Maybe this week.

It could be due to the buttons being pressed. Because the Libra Colour has wake on button press, it ca be woken up with a button press. You can turn this off and see what happens from there when you close the cover with a book showing.

It’s a good theory, but I have proven it is not happening. For example, when I put my TLC down on my table, I gently lifted up the cover to see if the last page read had moved. Then I gently closed the cover. I came back a few hours later, and the book was marked as read!

You could argue that when I re-closed the cover after checking, that’s when the buttons were pressed or whatever. It’s a bit of a Schrödinger’s cat situation, isn’t it? 🤓

The only time the last page read does not move is when I close the book and exit back to the home screen. As long as the book is open/active while the sleep covers closed, the last page read will wander.

I don't have the cover and turning off page button wake fixed it for me. Maybe there's something else up with that.

I've had this problem as well. This sounds like a programming logic issue. The cover being closed should take precedence over the button being pressed and keep the device from waking. Apparently it's not set up that way, so you end up having to turn off what would be a handy feature.
