I got the first for free from tor.com years ago, and finally put it on my "to read" list for next year. I have no idea if I'll like it enough to read the rest, but this sale is tempting. Should I buy these?

I don't see much fantasy on your 2024 or 2023 book lists so I'm not sure how that fits into your reading preferences. If you haven't/don't read a lot of fantasy, these can be very overwhelming, so you might want to try them out first. I would suggest reading a few chapters of Way of Kings or a Mistborn book to at least get a taste. I see The Silmarillion on your list from this year, but it is a different type of complex than that and a very different writing style.

If you have read and enjoyed his other books, Mistborn in particular, or the Wheel of Time books he wrote, I would highly recommend them. I think they are excellent personally.

These are the flagship books for his Cosmere universe and the overall lore is very intricate and connected between a lot of his stuff. Not everyone likes that. You do not need to have read everything to be able to understand these, but there are some nice easter eggs and connections that show up if you have read other books.

Thanks for replying! There was a period where I read a fair amount of Salvatore's Drizzt books (and I've played a fair amount of Dungeons and Dragons). I also read A Song of Ice and Fire, although clearly that isn't the same fantasy as this stuff. A friend of mine bought me Gardens of the Moon, but I have yet to read that too!

Recently I decided I should finally get back to fantasy, so that's why I picked up Dragonbone Chair (hearing it was an influence on Ice and Fire), and devoured it fast. I'm in the middle of the next one of that series.

Anyway, even though I know things like that, plus Tolkien, are all "classic" fantasy, and people like Sanderson and Erikson are doing something else altogether different. I doubt the complexity is something I'll have an issue with; it's just whether I'll personally like Sanderson's "style" enough to keep going.

Buy these from Kobo. If you buy from Amazon, the graphics will likely be reduced in size. If you buy from Kobo, you get full size graphics.

Yes. Buy from Kobo for full size graphics. They are very highly rated.

That won't work as not all the graphics are the same as what's in the book. For example, the chapter header graphics are all one page and you'd have build each chapter header manually.

It's a lot easier to buy the ePub and convert that if you have a Kindle. That way you do get the correct size graphics.
