Western comics in colors i'll always prefer a tablet... but i think it's still doable if they are b/w. Scribe IS a little smaller than the actual format, but it's still readable and nice, no panel to panel

Scribe user from a few posts up, it looks like you accidentally enabled panel view. Double tap the corner to disable it so it does normal full screen page by page turning.

Anyone mind reviewing this PR to make sure I didn't typo or misunderstand anything regarding 12th gen kindles? https://github.com/ciromattia/kcc/pull/762 Also uploaded a 6.2.1. pre-release with 12th gen kindle support. Last edited by axu2; 10-24-2024 at 12:26 AM. |

Most CBR/CBZ are illegal. Also, why would Amazon support such formats that they do not sell? Does KCC convert to whatever format Amazon does use for comics?

As for supporting formats that they do not sell? Does Amazon sell ePub format ebooks? Does it sell .docx format ebooks? Yet those are the top two formats for uploading to KDP. As for your last question, take the time to download KCC and look at what output formats it supports rather than expecting other people to do your research for you.

A cbz is just a zip file of images like jpg. Funnily, the Kindle DX and other early kindles actually have cbz support. At some point cbz support was removed from newer models.

I don't read comics on an eInk. I don't really read comics or graphic novels. I'm just curious if it supports the Kindle's comic format.

KCC will output EPUB that can be used with Send to Kindle (which will got converted to AZW3), which will result in a comic mode on Kindle. It also has the option to use kindlegen to create MOBI file locally. However, the best kindle comic format is the KFX Manga format, which there are no currently known way to automatic this process. It can be created manually with Kindle Create + the KFX Output Plugin to convert the kpf file to kfx, but that's it. (The KFX output option in KCC just create an EPUB that is designed to be converted in calibre GUI to KFX, which result series of images in a reflowable KFX and not KFX Manga) |

I thought adding Kindle 12th gen support was a little tedious, so made this PR reducing the number of places you need to change in the future. https://github.com/ciromattia/kcc/pull/764 Also noticed that the Paperwhite 12 has the same resolution as the Oasis 9/10, so simplified some code. There are no UI changes, just code changes to remove a lot of hardcoding. If anyone wants to take a quick review of the code, would be nice |

CBZ/CBR are just zip rar files with images inside. You can unpack them with any archival software. In the past people would scan manga comics, translate them, then share them online via irc and other means. Origin was always fan translations. They are grey and also black area regarding piracy. By the original artists and publishers of manga, they were considered as advertisement, as long as no official english translation was available. Teams that did scanning and translating would often adhere to an unwritten rule to always stop fan translations as soon as official english translation was available. Naturally there were exceptions. There were teams that did not go with this, and there were teams that become official translators of mangas. Many modern publishers of mangas in English, actually have a history of fan translation, and many mangas profited by initial publicity of fan translations, but then again, unlicenced distribution of the comics is also a thing, so it's an area that's quite complex.

The Kindle Colorsoft has been reported to not expose the system/thumbnails folder for covers, so here's a workaround and pre-built exe. https://github.com/ciromattia/kcc/pull/767 It just replaces EBOK tag with PDOC, so Kindle reads the cover directly from the file. Please test and tell me if it has issues. Also, should I remove the ASIN tag? And does anyone remember when pdoc covers started being read by Kindles? |
