Extract ISBN v1.6.5
Release Notes:
https://github.com/kiwidude68/calibr...ct_isbn-v1.6.5 Without being able to replicate the title missing issue this is a change to the only code that could be remotely relevant. |

I only just discovered this plug-in thanks to a mention in the goodreads metadata thread. This makes metadata downloading a lot less frustrating. Thanks!

ISBN get overwritten
Hi, I absolutely love the plugin However I do Have 1 Problem.
Wehen I extract the ISBN from my book (non english version) and then do the "Download Metadata and Cover" actions from Calibre it sometimes overwrites the ISBN found in the book, with an ISBN for the english version. However i Cant fiund a checkmark to stop the auto action of ISBN. What Am I missing? |

You might be able to fine tune (configure selected source) which source supplies what field. FWIW I switched to using the ctrl-D version AND then using the Review... Button to see (and put back my versions ) each field. Unfortunately Custom columns are not availble on this method. OTOH there is a pulldown on the target to allow use of existing values (Authors,tags...) I do wish there was a 'Leave blank' (do not enter icon) when a found field value was also not acceptable. This method has a MERGE on the Identifiers arrow, so you could have multiples You can only have 1 of any type (ISBN)

Two suggestions:
- In the scan log, list a bit of text before and after the ISBN. This way the user can easily pick out which one is the actual ISBN when they also list other editons. - The blue colour is not readable in dark mode. Maybe change it. |

Hi, can you please add a feature, where it picks up the last found ISBN instead of the first found?
Some of my ebooks are part of a multiple volume series, so for example John Doe Book v20 and the publisher decided to list all the other volumes including the respective ISBNs in the copyright section also. The plugin then picks up the first ISBN that it has found, which is usually the one for the first volume of the series. I think, a simple toggle switch would help, something like "Picking up first found ISBN/ picking up last found ISBN in file" Also, it might also help with ebooks, that have both ISBNs for the paperback and the ebook version - if somebody wants to have a specific one. Code:
Identifiers: LCCN 2026000000 | ISBN 9780000000000 (v. 1 : pbk.) |ISBN 9780000000000 (v. 2 : pbk.) | ISBN 9780000000000 (v. 3 : pbk.) | ISBN 9780000000000 (v. 4 : pbk.) | ISBN 9780000000000 (v. 5 : pbk.) | ISBN 9780000000000 (v. 6 : pbk.) | ISBN 9780000000000 (v. 7 : pbk.) |ISBN 9780000000000 (v. 8 : pbk.) | ISBN 9780000000000 (v. 9 : pbk.) | ISBN 9780000000000 (v. 10 : pbk.) | ISBN 9780000000000 (v. 11 : pbk.) | ISBN 9780000000000 (v. 12 : pbk.) | ISBN 9780000000000 (v. 13 : pbk.) | ISBN 9780000000000 (v. 14 : pbk.) | ISBN 9780000000000 (v. 15 : pbk.) | ISBN 9780000000000 (v. 16 : pbk.) | ISBN 9780000000000 (v. 17 : pbk.) | ISBN 9780000000000 (v. 18 : pbk.) | ISBN 9780000000000 (v. 19 : pbk.) | ISBN 9780000000000 (v. 20 : pbk.) | ISBN 9780000000000 (v. 21 : pbk.) | ISBN 9780000000000 (v. 22 : pbk.) | ISBN 9780000000000 (v. 23 : pbk.) TBH I have severe doubts over how useful such a toggle would be - because it is completely and totally at the publisher's "whim" as to where the ISBN appears in the book. It could change between editions, different book series, absolutely between different publishers etc.
So then how do you know whether it is at front or back for an individual book - you have to open it up and look. At which point you may as well just copy/paste the value and use it directly instead of using what the plugin creates. I understand what you are asking for, but in my experience it would have such extremely limited usage in the use cases where you could rely on it being correct that it just isn't worth adding to the plugin. |

You are probably right. I would have used it manually per publisher and just hoped, that the publisher wouldn't changed their way of handling it midway, haha.
The only reason I need the ISBN is to batch editing tags and tags (like genre, magic, dragons etc.) usually aren't changing much throughout a series. So it should be good enough, even if the plugin only picks up the first volume each time. (In any case it's much more foolproof to search via ISBN than searching via title + author; that way I can avoid having to double check every title). Thanks for the quick reply! |
