I forgot about the air quality advisory warning and took a brisk walk -- now I have a very sore throat and a pounding headache ... sigh ...

Speaking of air conditioning. The first time my wife and I moved after we got married, we moved on a very hot and very humid day. We had a smallish window AC unit. But it didn't do much in the humid weather.

Not long after having moved, I jumped online and went to Best-Buy's website. I found a medium-large (I forget witch) AC unit that did dehumidifying. I reserved it. We jumped in the car went and got it and installed it. It made one heck of a difference.

Another thing that happened that day is my mother gave us some watermelon and we put it in the fridge. When we took it out, it was almost frozen because we didn't check the settings on the fridge. Given how hot and humid it was, it was the best watermelon ever.

I grew up w/o A/C, in the Northeast (USA), but I now live in Phoenix, AZ and the chance of me even thinking about living without a/c are non-existent. Not. A. Chance.

I grew up in south Northeast without A/C and now live in south Northeast. I wouldn't want to live with A/C in home or car. I could, but I wouldn't want to. In the house, for me, I probably only have it 10 days during the summer. In the car late spring through early autumn A/C is usually on, sometimes with the windows down.

We finally broke down and bought a portable A/C here. With climate change, we're getting more and longer hot spells where it's really challenging for my DW. Frankly, if we had the $$ we'd be investing in a good heat pump, but as it is we make do with a pellet stove in the winter and fans in the summer except for prolonged hot spells (over 30 C.) My eggplants and peppers really like the heat, but the rest of us have problems with it.

Are you concerned there's enough offenders to fill-in the canyon? I'm sure coyotes and mountain lions will be able to take care of the clean-up operation.

Yup, when I moved out to CA for a year back in '89, we stopped by on the drive. Somewhere I have videotape of me jumping out onto a rock outcrop and shooting straight down into the canyon. No safety line, no one holding me. I was incredibly lucky. I need to find that tape and digitize it, because even just remembering it has been a reminder to me to never be that recklessly stupid again, and I should show it to my kids.

It was awesome, BTW. Very...um...grand.

BTW, I'd suggest the bottom of the ocean as an alternate trebuchet target, but that's where the lawyers will go.

It is, indeed, grand. I lived here for IDK-how-many years, without realizing just how extraordinary it truly is, until I had family come out, that just "hadda" see it. I contacted a pilot friend, arranged to license a plane for however-long, and off we went. I didn't expect to be as gobsmacked as I was--but in truth, seeing it from the ground is just...nothing, nothing at all, compared to seeing it from the air. It is freaking remarkable. It should not be filled, via trebuchet or any other method, with crappy people, cars, or anything else. It's...just amazing. Truly.

Agreed. But the Canyon is roomy enough not to even see the odd human lump catapulted in. The local fauna would have a tasty treat as their reward for cleaning up the evidence. AND there'd be a smaller percentage of people in existence that do not use their turn signal.

We could even dress the guilty in camo before serving the justice of the trebuchet upon them.
