Tag Browser Search Questions

Two questions,

1. Is there a way of searching for more than one tag at a time in the tag browser so that I can isolate books - ie. contemporary.romance AND romance.contemporary.

2. Is there a way to select books in the general booklist and then have it (or them) be the only ones shown in the tag browser?

I would like to be able to see all the tags easily for a book without having to go through the edit metadata field to see them. If I could point to a book or selected books and then have them be isolated so that only their tags are shown in the browser.

2. Try pressing Shift+F2 on the Tags cell in the booklist, it will show what you want.

Hold down ctrl while clicking on tags to search for multiple tags.

and remember the you click more than once for hierarchical parents if you want all the children ++ or -- will show

For #2: BetterRed's answer is probably sufficient. However, to do exactly what you asked for -- in the tag browser only show items in selected books -- do:

First, ensure that the option Preferences / Look & feel / Tag browser / Hide empty categories is checked.

Then:

1. If there are any marks, clear all marks. If you do this a lot then you might want to give clearing marks a shortcut.
2. Select the books.
3. Toggle marks on selected books (Ctrl + M)
4. Search for marked:true (Ctrl + Shift + M)
5. Press "Ctrl + *" (on my keyboard * is Shift + 8, so the sequence is Ctrl + Shift + 8) to create a temporary VL.

The tag browser will show items (authors, tags, etc) in the selected (marked) books.

You can make a shortcut for clearing the current virtual library. Preferences / Shortcuts / Miscellaneous / Clear the Virtual library.

I know about the control, but I am looking for typing them in the search bar below the browser.

I have a lot of different tag columns. They are all heirarchal and I want to find misplaced/redundant tags.
