KePub is not a bit faster. The only reason you may think so is because you don't any advanced typesetting turned on and in that case, you're better off with ePub.

I thought they we're talking about seeing files with that extension: filename.kobo.epub

Kepubs don't have file extensions on Kobos or Kobo Desktop so I was wondering where they'd seen that.

I don't care about advanced typesetting. I do have epubs on my Libra, because kepubs don't look so good on a smaller screen, but I prefer kepubs (definitely without advanced typesetting) on my Sage.

Paper books had considerably fewer hyphens than ereaders. And yes, I disliked them in the paper books too and would have gotten rid of them if it had been possible.
