I had one program that in our corporate use had odd issues with language settings. I finally realized that on install, selecting CA from the language choices of US, CA and MX meant setting French as the default language as did allowing the program to use the default which it seemed to have translated from en-CA to fr-CA. Perhaps they never noticed that English is the number one language in Canada? In retrospect, I should feel happy that they did not choose Mandarin, Cantonese or Punjabi (the next 3 most popular languages in Canada).

It would seem that the chosen language should be tied to the User via the login rather than to the Computer. That way each user gets the right language regardless of the other users.

Unfortunately, we are located in Canada and en-CA is our corporate default. The bleeping program seems to assume en-CA means the same as fr-CA. Since we centrally manage installs on corporate devices, we went with the "use default language" setting which we ASSumed would respect en-CA as being English. Only after user complaints was an investigation done which showed selecting the default automatically or selecting CA in the install dialog both resulted in the use of French. While this made our French language speaking locations happy, the rest of our sites were most unhappy.

The latest Windows update screwed up my Weather live tile so now it's showing the temperature in F rather than C. Bloody US-developed software.

Take comfort from the fact that you're not alone - the VAST majority of the billion or so Windows 10 users are similarly effected.

Mine flipped but I just went into Customize on the tile's menu and reset it to Centigrade. This is Windows 11 not 10 so may be different.

So Amazon now has "All the music + top podcasts ad-free" for Amazon Music Prime. The problem is they took away (at least as far as I can tell), how to sample songs on an album (other then shuffling, in which case you need to listen to entire songs, mixed in with other songs). So now, I need to go to iTunes to sample an Album.

Amazon totally ruined their music app. Playlists are now shuffled and you can't stop it. Even purchased music in a playlist can't be played the way the playlist was arranged. We used Prime Music all the time, and are looking into Apple Music because of the changes.

My Amazon music app still works the old way, because I never allow auto updates. Hubby was not so fortunate.

I recently had another issue with my smartphone: Sometimes when I put my ear to the smartphone's screen it causes the phone to put the call on hold. It appears that the button used to do this is in same location as where I put my ear when I take a call.

A similar issue is the speech-to-text feature (converts the spoken words to text). It's not an issue with having the feature, its that you can't turn it off. The best the settings let you do is to not have it on screen at all times. It has recently started activating on its own and interfering the calls at both ends. Why can you just be able to turn it off if you don't want it.

This is the second or third time in the last few days I've had to report a spam post by an inactive, but previously legitimate, account here on MR. What is going on?

I would guess that the user had accounts using the same username and password on multiple sites, and a spammer has got hold of a list of usernames and passwords from one of the many security breaches, and is just trying them on as many services as possible until they find one that works. Which will usually be an inactive account.

Take a look in the MobileRead Wiki. Amazon does not use Dublin Core metadata though much of their metadata can be mapped to the DC equivalent.
