That was rather silly of me. Will you come to my house (condo) and hang out at my car 24/7?

Dog in the car wont work - cats are fast learners and would simply tramp forward and backward in front on the window, to seriously piss the dog off.
Of course intelligent dogs would either open the door (might be uncomfortable for the cat) or (not so intelligent) crash through the window (might be uncomfortable for the dog).

Perhaps you could attach a battery to the car? Small shocks might be just annoying enough (and no, I'm not seriously proposing this).

I was thinking of him being outside the car. And the mild electric shock idea did cross my mind years ago when the cats first found me. It would have been a good thief deterrent as well. I would have been mortified if I really hurt any critter by shocking it (unless it was a rat, then I would feel no guilt whatsoever). That idea went out the window fast.

I use scat pads on my car (front & back) that deliver a mild shock to the cats when they walk across it. The scat pad plugs into AC. The scat pads weren't cheap, but work very well when they are turned on - the cats seem to know when they are not plugged in.

I got another solution... Don't wash your car that often and you won't recognize the cat prints!

Unfortunately, that makes them more noticeable. I see their smeared paw prints from climbing up and sliding down my windshield and their body prints on my moon roof.

Years ago, I lived in a place where neighborhood cats would walk all over my car. I tried many things to keep them off. From special "keep away" sprays from the pet store to placing plastic mats around my car placed downside up so the gripper spikes were facing up and uncomfortable to walk on (that worked the best and no they weren't sharp enough to draw blood just really uncomfortable to walk on).

Then I moved to my condo and had no problems for years until now. A wild cat or two has discovered my car again and I'm finding cat paw prints all over it again. I don't have the room to lay out the mats without impinging on my neighbors parking spaces. The spray never really worked and it stinks. I need another solution.

So how, can I keep the cat(s) off my car?
You can't.

The spays do not work.

Purchase a parachute silk style car cover, toss it over your car when it is parked.

The only solution I know is to cover up the cat magnet.
I once spent a few years running a large outdoor experimental apparatus that featured air bubbles and puncturable tubing, both fascinating to the local feral cat population...it had to be in sunlight, so I ended up building wire-mesh frames to cover the whole thing, and even then the little fiends would sometimes manage to get a paw through...

I'm going back to the mat method because it will also be a sort of training. If I forget to put the mat on, there should be the memory of unpleasantness associated with my car. A car cover is too impractical for me unless I know the car is going to sit for a day or two. Plus I'm very allergic to cats and I don't want to fool with a cover that will end up having a lot of cat hair on it.

Unless they are stalking prey, in which case they'd use more cover, they probably like to take the highest vantage points in their paths so they'll have the best overall view of their surroundings... Car, fence, porch railing {see mouse}, drop down to ground level, behind old tire, walk along the side of the house, and.... yum... "Now with a full belly I think I'll go rest on the warm hood of that big object that just moved into the driveway"

And even if they aren't warm through engine heat, being made of metal, they warm up in the sunshine a lot faster than their surroundings.

My advice would be to adopt the cats and then turn them into indoor cats. And then start another thread on MR about your lovely new adopted cats, complete with photos.

(Yeah, the cats napping on your keyboard would also be another topic.)
