Adjusting word spacing for justified text – kepub

Never seen such a thing, and I always read my books fully justified.

I too have never seen this. If you do see something like this again, can you please get a photo and post it?

It looks like the KEPUB renderer is managing the text string "Ma..." ("But..." in italian) as they were separate words, I guess. Any idea on how to solve this?

In the same way that the comma cannot be separated from the preceding character, in Spanish the long dash cannot be separated from the character —preceding or following— to which it has been attached.
The renderer can stretch the spaces as it needs to, but it should not separate characters that should be joined together.
For example, in the following lines it should only stretch spaces, without separating any other characters:
—This is dialogue in Spanish —he said.
And this is also common —in Spanish—.

I was trying to look for it in the last two books that i read which i remembered to have the problems i have described but i can not find it. If i have more time to spare, i will look for them more closely, unless your hyphenation dictionary already solved it as i am already using it now.

I'll keep and eye out for ellipses in kePub and see what happens. What I do though it remove any space before and after the ellipse. So I don't know if that makes a difference.

As I already tried to explain earlier in this thread, this problem with excess letter-spacing is nothing to do with 2-char words or ellipses. It's much more likely to be a result of how kepub kobospans are applied and the effect they can have on the displayed text depending on where one kobospan ends and the next one starts.

That is an excellent point. If I find something off, I'll have a look at the code.

That's not an ellipse. That's just three periods. The other is definitely a problem.

Have you had a look at the code? If the paragraph in the first photo has multiple koboSpan in the paragraph, try removing all but the first one and try it again. It would be interesting to see if the problem gets fixed.

Copy the eBook from your Kobo to the computer. Then load it into Calibre and open it with the Calibre editor. You can then see the code from there.

Do you use the legibility option? Because I don't and I've never seen those spaced-out letters in any kepub I've read. And i read fully justified text without hyphenation.
